I read it some 15 years back and I made a Foxfro Code for it.
Its very simple
it is like this : a number like 11, 33 ,44, 88 multiply by 99
Sum of 1 digit and 4th digit is 10 always
Sum of 1 digit and 3rd digit is 9 always
Sum of 2 digit and 3rd digit is 8 always
Sum of 2 digit and 4th digit is 9 always
Given any digit and it's position you can quickly get the other three digits

No need to do any calculations, its plain and simpler than following 1089*n formula:
1st and last digits co-relate to each other:
1 - 9
2 - 8
3 - 7
4 - 6
5 - 5
6 - 4
7 - 3
8 - 2
9 - 1
So its simple, there are only 5 pairs to remember, (rest is just the repition of earlier 4 pairs but in reverse pattern). As long as I know wht number pairs up with which other number in reverse count, i will know what number you started with.
For example: If you tell me last digit is 1, then I know simply as per above pairing table, you started with 9 and vice versa.
And so is the case for the rest.

It is logical.if my last digit is 4 then subtract 4 from 10 and you get the original number!
similarly,if it is 3 then 10-3 is 7 and so is the original number!!

Hey man , its a kids play! What all you are doing is you are dividing the number with 1089 to get the number as you have multiplied the number so many times , while creating a confusion ! Am I right ? 10 points please!

found the trick but poor in xpressing.
99(10+x)
above assumed x is a single digit number
for each value of x(0-9) will give you a answer
hence x could be found with just knowing the last digit number
