Many times I like to go running first thing in the morning then eat breakfast and go to the gym either after that or middle of the day. I'm trying to really tone up. Is that an effective way or should I run one day and workout the next, alternating each day and take one day off?

As long as you are not too exhausted from running that you cannot get a good workout, then you are doing well. But do give your body a rest periodically. Muscles rebuild (tone and enlarge) while resting.

I have learned that if you don't do the same exercise all day you should be ok. But listen to your body and make sure you have enough water and you eat.

I'm a nurse. This is OK as long as you are use to doing this. Your body will let you know if it's too much, so don't ignore the signs.
