were you ever told something as a child by an adult, and beleived it to be true into your adulthood, until one day(sometimes embarrassingly) you are told its not true?

Yes, my mom called pizza crust "pizza cookie" so we would eat it. I was in junior high when I made a fool of myself in front of all my friends, because I still thought it was called the pizza cookie.

Yes definately. I have always tried to tell my kids the truth. I told them the truth about Santa and told them about Jesus at the same time. I've taught them to question ideas even when the masses tend to jump on the bandwagon. My older children eventually come back and desire to discuss topics on a deeper level.

My teenager told me he usually takes what I say and tosses it in the trash . .. later he looks down and picks it back out. (I guess that's a compliment)

I think we all do this. I'm a linguist, and I've grown up hearing my parents' beliefs about how languages are acquired, based on their experiences. Now that I am more familiar with the research, I realize that some of the ideas are not supported by the research.
