I sell DISH Network satellite television service and this is a very common thing to hear from customers who just purchased a new HDTV.

Most people are under the assumption because they have an "HDTV" thats its just automatically going to show everything better. Its just not true!

There are 2 things at play here...

#1 Have you ever tried to enlarge a photograph and notice that the enlarged photo is not as crisp and clear as the origional? Same is true for televisions, the bigger the screen, the more detail and flaws your going to see in the picture.

#2 It depends on how your connection is being made to your televsion. If your using Coax, Composit, or S-Video the television has an internal scaler that is going to upconvert a 480 signal to 1080i. If your X box came with the HD component video cables, then your X box is upconverting the signal to 1080i before it goes into your television.

There are some things you can do to fix this issue...

#1 If you haven't already done so, I would highly suggest using the HDTV component video cable that you can get for your X Box. I have a Sony 32" HDTV and my picture looks awesome!

#2 Try adjusting the colors, sharpness and black levels on your televison. On my Sony there are several preset options like Vivid, Pro, Movie and Standard. I had the same problem when I first got my Televison because the default setting was on Vivid, after changing some of the colors the picture looked much much better.

#3 There are companies that will charge you a few hundred dollars to professionally calibrate your television and properly adjust all the colors. From what I have seen, deffinitly money well spent however they do sell DVD's that guide you through the steps in setting up the correct colors on your own for a fraction of the cost.

Hope this helps

It probably IS because of it being a tube TV. Fixed-pixel displays look (and usually are) sharper. No (consumer-level) CRT can display 1080 lines of resolution, even though that is what's going into the tube. The beam spot is just too big. This is especially noticeable in video games.

at the moment very few plasma/LCD tv's can compare to CRT in the picture quality stakes-also bear in mind that your old set was 15 inches-i assume the samsung is larger. so the picture is not as concentrated as it would be on the smaller set. there is nothing wrong with your HDTV-it is just a case of getting used to it thats all.

if your television has a DTV enter.. then all you desire is an antenna... vhf/uhf... they make particular ones for the recent television's however the previous ones will artwork positive... merely plug it into the DTV enter and test for the recent channels... you may could play with the antenna placement a splash.. i did. yet as quickly as you get the antenna you will get the shows that are filmed in HD in HD... yet its not all of them.. .merely the best time ones regularly... and it would possibly be equipped in in case you got a sparkling television... so merely plug in the antenna and get your HD stations... the wall cable won't get you HD except you hire the HD field out of your cable employer... mine quotes 8 money a month for uncomplicated HD television.. ensure you get the surprising cable once you get the blu ray participant and luxuriate on your HD.. merely get the antenna
