Someone once told me this, but this same person would also make up a lot of pointless facts. I do know that tea, soup and other warm liquids are good for your throat, and soda is bad. So is there any detriment in drinking cold water.

First, anything hot. I personally really like a called Throat Coat (by a company called something or other Herbal Medicinals or something - you can't find it everywhere, but most grocery stores have it), which is tasty, and feels wonderful on a sore throat. Add some honey and/or lemon juice to help with the pain. Second, along those lines, it's not something to drink, but it helps make it feel better instantly! Take a big spoon, and fill it half way with honey, and the other half with lemon juice. It's makes you cringe a little bit when you take it, but it really helps a lot. Make sure you don't just swallow it, but squish it in your mouth before swallowing, so it gets into the back of your mouth, and coats those painful spots, instead of just going straight down.

Water is fine for you regardless of how sore your throat is, but as you mentioned, warm stuff will help sooth it a little better than the cold, which might actually make it feel worse than it already does. When I get a sore throat, I tend to drink chamomile tea...it really helps, trust me!

I'm a nurse. There isn't anything wrong with you drinking cold water while having a sore throat, especially if it makes you feel better. Think about your comfort above all else. Also the OTC throat drops will work as well. Take care.

I agree that water is good for you when you have a sore throat: cold or hot. However, hot water sure feels better.
