You are not alone in this. A lot of people feel this way, don't voice it and continue to suffer in silence. Good for you for having the courage to admit it and taking steps to work with it.
There are ways to deal with it. First, you need to talk to someone emotionally stable. Very stable and not personally involved. Like a good doctor.
No need to do anything complicated.
Just remind yourself not to think too much whenever you can.
This situation is only temporary.
You will be happy and peaceful again.
Join a meditation or yoga class.
Regular attendance will help you relax and concentrate.
A technique a Sri Lankan Monk taught people once. You can do
everyday. To always remind ourselves first thing right out of bed.
Say aloud "I am lucky. I am happy."
Like a chant. Then, carry on with your day.
Sincerely hope this helps.
Pat yourself on the back for taking positive actions.

I feel the same way right now. That's why I'm up at 1:30am typing on Yahoo! answers instead of getting ready for the first day of classes for the winter semester tomorrow. I have way too much to do and I don't understand how I can possibly finish it all, and I'm a little scared of doing it. Maybe you feel the same way? Anyway, it helps to break up all the work you have to do in chunks, and then actually decide how long it is going to take you and what time you are going to do it. For example: I have 200 pages of economics to read by next Wednesday, so I'll read 34 pages a night for 6 nights, and I think it will take me about 4 minutes a page so I'll start at 8pm and read until just after 10:30. Or I'll read an hour at noon and an hour at 3pm. Something like that. Don't make goals for yourself either until you have accomplished everyone else's goals for you. For example, even though I really want to read "1776" and it's just sitting on my book shelf, I'm not going to read it until I'm done my economics. One less thing to worry about. And if you are afraid of things you have to do like give a public speech or talk to somebody you know is going to say something cruel, I think it's best to take it one day at a time. Except the situation and make it a personal goal to overcome it (and then go buy yourself a vanilla latte to celebrate). On the other hand, now that I've written out my entire week on Yahoo! Answers, if you are worrying about things that you cannot control, like whether you are going to get in a car accident so you don't leave the house, or whether a robber is going to climb through the window while you're sleeping so you don't open it...you might want to get some medical help.
In response to Tinkerbell. I've never seen a medical professional about this, even though I sometimes have to force myself to walk out the door in the morning because of the anxiety. Consider whether you can mentally overcome it (I do it everyday) or whether you need help.

i found the best way to fight the negative feelings is to over power them with the positive say u r thinking i am gonna have a anxiety attack if u think that u r bound to get worked up cause u r so scared of them so think i am not gonna have one but if i do so what i have got threw one before i can do it again . and yes that feeling is horrible u feel like u cant do anything all u want to do is sit there and try to find away to feel better but don't know how u got to fight this feeling try relaxing things like lavender baths getting a book that teaches u breathing techniques and find some candles aromatherapy is awesome too but i would get a therapist that has helped me the most they teach u how to re train your thinking good luck i know it is hard but it is possible!!!

Too much of everything is not good. Just like you said it's only in the mind. You worry to much and give importance to your anxiety more. You see, we can train our mind to take what we like. You are the boss of yourself. Don't let this negative force demean you. Just like a habit, if you exercise everyday and eat good healthy food, you'll have a healthy body and also goes the mind. Try to train yourself to give little importance for worry and learn to relax;on the contrary if you think a doctor can help you with this, then by all means see one. Try first for yourself, coz I know you can. Best luck.

yes,it is the result of irrational thinking and will be amplified by the withdrawal of drugs including alcohol, you can easily counter the irrational thoughts with a simple technique from a psycologist but the important factor is when you know the technique YOU MUST PUT IT TO WORK and then you can go from there, your anxiety will decrease greatly but you have to do the work without any substance abuse because this will prevent any progress with your work.trying to put out anxiety with alcohol is like trying to put out a fire with petrol (gasoline)i speak from experience,go for it.

Maybe you could try writing stuff down that you are soo anxious about... or talk to someone about it. soemtiems it helps just to get it out... but you must agnoledge it is there...other wise it will continue and not get any better

i grew to become into playing solo at a coffeehouse to an aim industry of around 80 human beings, extra often than not musicians. The music grew to become into, accurately, "caught interior cellular With the Memphis Blues returned" Dylan. I went thoroughly clean (I mean i did no longer even understand what music i grew to become into making a music) on the top of the 1st verse (there are 9 verses in the music). I appeared for a pal of mine who grew to become into some thing of a Dylan fan (we performed together frequently) and asked him if he knew the subsequent line - he suggested no. I appeared over at some guy (that i did no longer quite look after) status in the doorway to the back alley chatting with a woman and it struck me - "nicely, Shakespeare, he's in the alley together with his pointed shoes and his bells, chatting with some French lady, who says she is acquainted with me nicely, etc". So, it grew to become into an embarassing cosmic 2d that grew to become into stored by skill of the "bell(e)(s)". the entire music purely extra healthful that concern perfectIy, "all of it regarded so timely". i've got in no way accomplished "Commando" (continuously taken a handwritten "cheat sheet" with me) from that 2d on.
