What kinds of foods can I put into my mildly autistic kindergartener's sack lunch that are tasty, healthy, and not fattening? She will not eat ANY veggies nor will she eat anything that "looks funny." HELP!!!

Hey Shellie,
Your question really cracked me up because I've been through the same thing. Got some ideas for you to try. Get a bag of LITTLE cookie cutters. Make her (it would be better if she helps you or she thinks she's helping you) peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches or chicken breast or turkey breast and cheese sandwiches and cut out little sandwiches with the cookie cutters. Tell her she is special and that no one else has sandwiches as good as hers. Wrap each one individually. Do this with fruit. Peel core and slice an apple, put sugar and cinnamin on each slice. Make apple cutouts with the cookie cutters and wrap each one individually. Peel an orange. Slice it. Put brown sugar on each slice. Make orange cutouts with the cookie cutters and wrap each one individually. Waxpaper is cheap, especially if it helps make her want to eat what you put in her lunches. Sorry, I can't help with the veggies. I told my children that other children all over town eat all their veggies and they usually ate them, although reluctantly. Be prepared, though, cause someday when you take her to a restaurant, she's gonna ask the waitress what kind of cookie cutter sandwiches they have! I hope I've helped you out!

my son is 4yrs old and refuses to eat anything but kfc, pies, mcDonalds lamb chops cheese and marmite sandwidches.the only veggies he eats are corn and potato. you shouldn`t worry too much about eating habbits, they are just too scared to try something new! pack the lunch box with thins you know they will eat, but keep it as healthy as possible. not too much fatty stuf and not too much sweets either. they will start eating other foods when they get older. but start enforcing that they should try something new now and then, if they don`t like it leava it for now. BUT they should atleast try or no sweets, set an altematum! try something new then you can have a sweet!!!!!

Wow ironic, I work with autistic children. What I would reccomend is that you go to the market together and choose food items that he or she would like to pack in there lunch. Then every night/afternoon go to the kitchen TOGETHER , and put the lunch together. Good Luck ! :]
