My dog is a 9 1/2 year old yorkie-poo who has been acting very odd since about 2 weeks ago. she will approach her food, walk away from it, and seems as though she is afraid of it. Same with her bones and toys. We took her to the vet and while she was in the cage at the she was acting like she used to be, perfectly normal. anytime she is in my house she acts very strange. We brought her for numerous tests at the vet, her blood work is perfectly fine and everything else is fine. the vet said she has behavioral problems. what could this be?

we have moved her bowl numerous times in all different places, especially to her cage which she feels very safe in, but she is still acting very odd when we try and feed her, the only thing she will eat right now is baby food. We try playing with her and she turns away. she also approaches her food, walks away then turns around and comes back. When we take her for walks, she is extremely happy, but acts extremely strange in the house. could it be somthing behavioral or does she sense somthing or was spooked by somthing in the house?

It's her teeth. Sounds exactly like the way my dog acted before we took him to the vet to have two of his teeth pulled. She wants to play and eat, but she might be experiencing pain every time she tries. It would explain her fear. All she remembers is that those things have caused her pain.

Soften her food up with water and mash it up. If she's eating a canned food, make sure the chunks are out of it.

I think your dog is just getting old and bored. I bet she is an only dog...you have to start stimulating her, play with her, take her to new places.
I have seen this happen in smaller breed dogs, it sounds very strange, but they do that sometimes if they want a change of routine, almost like they are acting different to make the situation different.
I seee that you brought her to the vet and all came back well so it leads me to think that the above mentioned is the case and that there is more of a psychological issue going on

Other than that you might want to look into her hearing and vision, most dogs lose their senses it gradually so they sort of get used to it, but a sudden loss of vision or hearing may be the cause also.
Good luck

Pets... do that. Maybe the guy's pet was sensing an earthquake or a tornado or something. But the Rapture is not going an earthly activity, so it's not likely that this a dog could "sense" it. The Bible also says that no one will know when the Rapture is going to come. There's no way to "predict" it. People can *think* the Rapture may be soon because of all the natural disasters and turmoil in the world, but people have been saying that since Christ was crucified.

Are you putting the food in a new location? One of my three dogs has a quirk about when the floor surface changes. She doesn't like kitchen tile and will avoid it at all cost, so I feed her in her bowl on the carpet and her water is in the kitchen at the edge of the tile at the carpet. You might see if your dog reacts differently if you move the bowl to a different area where she is more comfortable. How is her eyesight? If she is losing her eyesight she may feel less secure outside of a cage where she knows the boundaries and knows other animals can't get her and no one will step on her.

I agree that it could be her teeth. My cat used to do the same thing and we discovered he had bad gingevitis. Anything to do with her mouth will hurt so she will start avoiding food and chew toys. Puree and water down her food with unsalted beef or chicken stock. Take her to the vet because teeth problems in an aged dog can be serious.

That's great that you took her in and she's healthy. Have you changed her bowl, or moved it to a new spot or changed her food? If your doing everything as you alway's have, and she still does it, then your vet is right, it's probably behavioral problems
