I was just watching a movie on TV. One of the guys said "you took a cheap shot from me". What "cheap shot" means? In what situation do you use it? Thanks. =)

a cheap shot refers to an insult- usually insulting something that the recipient ofthe insult has no control over or has tried to reconcile but the insulter continues to hold it over their head just to make them feel bad
a cheap shot is an insult that the insulter does not have to work hard for and usually just to be mean

A cheap shot might be an insult over something that another person is sensitive about. For example if I knew you were sensitive about your weight and we were at a party and I yelled out to everyone "HEY LOOK - I brought little fatty hahaha!" - that would be a cheap shot. The reason is you were not in a position to defend yourself, I surprised you with an embarassing joke at your expense and I took unfair advantage of something I know you felt vulnerable about. The key element is that it's unfair.
Another example of a cheap shot would be to come up to you in friendship and suddenly punch you in the nose. In this case I took advantage of your trust and hurt you physically.

A cheap shot is when an insult is about something the individual can not help. Like making fun their parents, or their height or an embarassing situation in their life that they did not cause or have taken responsibility for. EX tellling a cancer patient that your are blinded by the shine from their bald head.

Cheap shot means to insult someone with somethings that may be true to some extent but its occurrence was beyond the individual control of the insulted individual and a decent person will not invoke that for an insult.

a cheap shot is attacking when they are unaware, lets say when they have their back turned and a guy punches him or when a guy has surrendered and te other guy still hits him, those kinds of things
