It can be done. My brothers sister-in-law adopted their only child 14 years ago. There cannot be any exchange of money between birth mom and adopting fam. I would contact a good adoption lawyer and get good advice. This of course, cost money. You might could contact a good Christian adoption agency in your State and ask them for a name of a good lawyer, b/c they will have one they use, and even see how they might help. If nothing else, they might give you some advice. I do know (having been on the board of directors for an adoption agency for a short while) that the birth father has to be contacted and he must sign all the necessary papers. Sometimes his parents will try to make things more difficult, b/c they want the baby or try to talk their son into keeping it himself. So this part can be tricky. I hope it works out for you guys. Babies need families who will love and care for them forever. They aren't puppies and too many kiddies are having kiddies.

Ignore all the comments about not taking a baby because you are low income. A greater portion of the nation is slowly being moved into the lower economic brackets. I don't know that much about adoption, but you might ask the local family services(foster parent program). At the very least they should be able to tell you who else you need to talk to.

you can most definatley get medicaid and wic. make sure your friend talks to a socail worker with children services, so when the baby is born it goes straight to you, and not through the system. if it isnt clear that she wants you to have the baby, it will end up in foster care. this happened to my parents a few years ago. good luck with the baby! most friends would not do this for somebody, you are a good person for doing this! if only there were more people like you and your husband.

That is not a very good idea, if your friend decides later that she wants the baby you can do nothing about it. Make sure you go to a lawyer to settle everything so that cannot happen. Also, if you are low income why done you wait till you can have your own?

Yes. You can get public assistance if you are granted custody of the baby. The other option is that you can apply to be foster parents and then request to foster this child. Foster parents are given a small stipend every week to help care for the child and are still elgible for public assistance.
Good luck!

Yes, you could get WIC and a medical card for the child if the birth mother is willing to sign over parental custody to you.

If you cannot afford a baby then maybe she needs to adopt it out to someone that can give it all what it needs in life.
When you are a low income family you can draw welfare, wic and foodstamps.

If you work it out between just the 3 of you it should be inexpensive. Make sure the adoption is legal. Talk to a lawyer.

My cousin went through the same thing and she paid for all the doctor visits, her tests, even started paying for labor and delivery. When her friend had the baby her friend told her she couldn't give it up! They were heart broken and mad! Talk to a lawyer if you want to do this! My prayers are with you!
