i have alot of pain in my chest left side. it hurts realy badly and has almost knocked me over a few times. it is near my lung area however i am not having any trouble breathing nor do i smoke or do any type of drugs. i am not confident as to why i can barely touch my skin to be in alot of pain. it feels as if i am being stabbed by a very sharp knife. an educated person please tell me what i should consider doing (goin to a alergist, going to a family doctor) as well as this if anyone has an idea at what i may be dealing with please send me that as well thank you

Here are some possibilities: stress (likely), blockage by plaque (better see a doctor), heart attack due to lack of blood supply: look for other symptoms, like dizziness, sweating, nausea... (better see a doctor). Galll bladder (also good possibility) (I've had it.. it's a sharp pain between the ribs kind of in the heart area.. lasts about 3 hours but it's 3 hours of torture. To fix you are facing either a diet issue or surgery, your choice!)
That's all I can think of.... Hope it helps.

It sounds like Tietze's syndrome--a benign inflammation of the costal cartilage. Press down on the area where the ribs meet the breast plate/sternum. If you feel pain, it's most probably Tietze's. P.S. Any chest pain should be looked at by a doc to rule out serious problems.

You mentioned that you can barely touch your skin without having pain. Does it increase with taking deep breaths or movement? Although these symptoms would be atypical for a heart attack (that pain is not affected by deep breaths, movement. or pain by touching the area), you should see a physician. Costochondritis that was already mentioned is a good bet as is a cracked rib. But you should get it checked out.

Many years ago, when I was in the Navy, I had similar symptoms and it turned out to be costochondritis, an inflammation of the costochondral (ribs) cartilages, a condition that sometimes mimics heart disease.

You should see your primary care doctor or a GP as soon as possible. If your condition requires a specialist, the doctor will refer you to one.

It sounds like you are having an anxiety attack. I have them and i have pain in my chest on the left side, it feels like someone is stabbing me. Sometimes i will have them when i am not even worrying about anything.

It could be a very mild heart attack. My uncle had one this past summer and didn't even know it until he had severe chest pain and went to the doctor. Please get it checked out because he had to end up having heart surgery and getting stents put into his chest.

It could also be a rib that's out of place.
