I have tattoos on each of my shoulder blades- one is of a medicine wheel (native american thing), and one is of 2 butterflies.

Should I cover these up, or should I not care, and have them exposed, so others can see?

Is it appropriate, or is it an insult to my family and friends?

I'm curious to see what complete strangers say...

Did you discuss with the Mr.?

I would say if it's a formal wedding you would want to cover them up because - regardless of if they aren't offensive - they would probably be a visual distraction if you are wearing all white and have colorful tattoos showing. They would probably stand out like a sore thumb.

Otherwise, if it's a less formal wedding just let them show.

My cousin is a tad of a "rough character", so when she got married she left many of her tattoos uncovered. She did wear a long-sleeved dress, so her arm tats were covered, but her back was covered in them and she had a back that came down into a v. I, however, think that no one cared just because we all knew she was covered in tats anyway. My mom did mention that she could have put a white sheer backing in to cover them up after the wedding was over, but I don't think anyone really was insulted, etc. We all know that is who she is and she was obviously comfortable doing it. If it is part of who you are and people have seen them before, who cares?

well I guess it depends on what you want...but you asked my opinion so here it is-I don't like for tatoos to show on a bride....or well-any girl in a formal dress. in my opinion it looks tacky. I don't have tattoos, and if one of my bridemaids had one that showed I would make her cover it up because my personal preference is that they are a distraction from the overall look of the girl. A bride in her dress has a certain wow factor, but I hate to see a girl looking the most beautifully as she has ever looked and then she turns around and you see some ugly tribal or other tatoo and it just distracts me from everything else. It's really a matter of personal opinion, but I am entitled to it, adn you asked! I can also guarantee that their will be people at your wedding who feel the same way.....

I didnt cover mine up and I have 2 in the same place. actually I have 4, but only 2 that could be seen. they are part of who I am so why should I cover them? I have a dragonfly on one shoulder and a heart with wings and my husbands name in the middle (I had it before the wedding) nobody said anything or cared about it. why should they? its not their business.

It is your day and it should be your decision without regard to what others want you to do. I have a tattoo on the outside of my upper left arm and I didn't cover it when I got married... My dress was sleeveless with straps. Granted there was a handful of harmless comments... It didn't matter because it was my decision.

I think it's completely up to you. I have one on my upper back that my dress will not cover. I intend to wear my hair up and wear my tattoo proudly. It's something that means something to me and to those people around me who know what it stands for. If the others don't like it, they can get over it.

It's really up to you, but you may regret not covering them if you don't. If you are really torn, you could always leave them exposed, but get them edited out of your wedding photographs by the studio retoucher. That is one of the services my company provides.

You need to cover them up. Tattoos and a wedding dress are tacky and disrespectful. You're supposed to look innocent and virginal on your wedding day.

Don't listen to these old fashioned prudes who are saying it is "inappropriate", for goodness sake are they living in Victorian times? I think that everyone who knows you will know you have tattoos anyway, so don't worry if they show, they are part of you.

I wouldn't cover them up. How is it an insult to your family and friends? Did you tie them up and put the same tats on them?? Be proud and show them, if someone doesn't like them , they don't have to look.
