This is one of the things that bothers me the most about Yahoo Answers. All of the misinformation out there is staggering. You most definitely do NOT automatically lose if you pocket the cue ball on the break shot. In fact, I've never heard of that rule in any league, tournament, or even any bastardized house rules. It's crystal clear under BCA rule 4.6 for 8-ball. In the event of a scratch on the break, all pocketed balls remain down (exception for the 8-ball) and the incoming player has ball in hand behind the head string, as the table is open. This is a perfect example of how technology can do as much harm as good, in terms of the spread of information. Any question regarding the rules of pool can be easily found on any of several reputable sites, most noteably the BCA (Billiard Congress of America) website. Take some initiative and do the footwork yourself. This goes for all of you with pool questions. The answers are out there. Go directly to the source and ask people who actually have a clue. To straight shooter -I agree with mis-info point. Just think how I feel because I play in baseball, basketball, football and track. Add movies, music, TV, politics, history, currents and etc....
What is worse is that people pawn their opinion off as fact.
