AND I QUOTE:

"SITES: Do you think President Bush and his advisers are guilty of criminal conduct in the prosecution of this war?

WATADA: That's not something for me to determine. I think it's for the newly-elected congress to determine during the investigations that they should hold over this war, and pre-war intelligence. "

Its not his frickin choice to determine that his thoughts are over the COMMANDER AND CHIEF... I dont understand this nut bag... was he never told by anyone and everyone in the military that it does not matter what you think, thats what being a civilian is, to speak your mind. A soldier is to carry out the duties of which he is being told to do. I mean, if he really didnt want to go to Iraq, why didnt he hurt himself some way, so at least he will get a honorable discharge... what a quack.

His behavior is abominable (and I hate the war).

If he objected to the war, he should not have joined the reserves. He agreed to follow orders when he joined. He is pretending that military service is the same thing as working for a corporation. The truth is that he is not honoring his personal commitment.

His behavior shows why we need a standing Armed Forces of professional soldiers who are paid well enough to have full time careers. It's an outgrowth of the Rumsfeld fiasco of trying to make the Armed Forces run like a business.

He needs to get a lawyer and stop talking to the media.

If he has a problem with serving in Iraq because he deems it 'an illegal war' why don't they transfer his butt to a unit going to the frontlines in Afghanistan?

Dimes to doughnuts this guy would find something wrong with ANY deployment to a hot zone! That's because he's a coward and without honor. Plain and simple.

Probably just signed up for the 'college money'. So much for the 'Army of One' concept! Here's your product!

I only half agree with you. We all know that this war was bull crap, and the american people were lied to from the begining about it,so I can understand his reasons for his actions. On the other hand as Ehren said in an interview, the truth was always avilable to anyone willing to look for it. Instead of looking for it he choose to join the service and take his oath he therefore cant blame anyone but himself and should fulfill his sworn duties.

He said it himself. He thought the government was telling him the truth when they said Saddam had WMDs and was willing to use them against US forces. He believed Bush's overhyped intelligence booga-booga, but slowly figured out how much bullcrap he'd been fed. At first, he signed up because he thought the invasion of Iraq was a legitimate part of the war on terror, that Saddam was somehow involved in 9/11. He realized that none of that was true, and now he's standing up against what he sees as an unConstitutional war. By law, he MUST disobey illegal orders. It's his damn fault in the first place for not questioning the government, but I can't blame him for finally standing up and calling a spade a spade.

Oldfart: Watada is NOT backing al-Qaida. He is not aiding or abetting the enemy. He is simply dissenting from the administration's official line. If you consider dissent equivalent to treason, then you have no clue what the First Amendment guarantees in terms of Free Speech. Freedom of Speech applies to ALL speech, popular and unpopular. If you don't like the idea that someone can disagree with your President's policies, if you believe that everyone must blindly fall in lockstep with his narrow view of the world, then you're unAmerican and do not deserve to be a citizen of these United States. Move to Iran immediately, if not sooner.

He should be court marshalled. He didn't even get in the Army until after 9/11 so he knew what he was getting into. After he is convicted in a court marshall he should do his time at a military stockade in Iraq.
