Why do Americans think Muslims in America are foreign when more than half are white and/or black?

More than 40% of American Muslims are African-American
Around 7-10% are white
the rest are divided about 30% Desi
only 12-14% are Arab which is the same % worldwide

So, why do we continue to be ignorant about this?

ok their religion is foreign and i have NEVER met a muslim who is white or black UNLESS they are black refugees from some country so they are foreign, as for the white muslims, there are few whites that do convert to muslim, which is beyond me but all the muslims i know ARE FORGEIN!

do we all think that they're all foreign? And aren't some white people foreign, anyway? African-Americans are obviously American, but there are Black muslims that aren't. Maybe the question should be, why are some (not all) Americans ignorant of Islam?

Beats me. Perhaps because the black American Muslims hate the southern white Christians that owned their ancestors, so they adopted the religion of the Arabs who impressed said ancestors into slavery in the first place.

Me, I think it's just part of the 1930's Comintern indoctrination program for American blacks.

Americans as a society like to live in blissful ignorance of everything that we can possibly avoid. We wait until our sense of security is disrupted and one specific group of people will therefore suffer during a certain "unspecified" timespan.

For example, we are currently fearful of Muslims (any Muslims, foreign or not) because they physically attacked us on 9/11 at the World Trade Center. We are not smart enough as a society to distinguish between exactly what type of Muslim and from what society/culture/geographic location. We just target them as a whole for our hatred because we as a society were violated. Eventually we will not hate or be fearful of Muslims because people will slowly forget what has happened to our nation.

Skeptical? Are we as a society still generally fearful of Asians? Not as a whole, no. Look back to WWII and Pearl Harbor. Same story as 9/11, our society was violated as a whole. How did we respond? Fear/hatred for Asians. We went so far as to ship all of them to Concentration Camps HERE in our supposedly "mixing pot" nation. Eventually they were released and sent back to live normal lives. We grew to a point over a number of years where we no longer primarly targeted Asians with our anger.

The same will happen for Muslim-Americans. Eventually we will forget about hating them and being fearful of them as we slowly forget about 9/11.

WE....what do you mean, we, when you say ignorant? The majority of people in America who are not ignorant, really don't get on computers and ask these questions, they have productive jobs, and lives. Muslims recruit low income distitute people regardless of race trying to build some kind of communal "poor people" religion, no offense, it is just not a race thing but more of a poor race thing.

We must educate ourselves on who is what.
But if only 12-14% are Arab Muslims then what religion is the rest of the Arabs.
Arab,Iran,Egypt,most middle east countries are Muslims.
White people only make up like 10% of the world population.<><

this is all about the prejudice in them.they regard Muslims as a group of people who should be separated from the community and live among themselves.that is all rubbish.Muslims are not dangerous,nor they are terrorist.well,some may be a bit extreme but most of them are just as nice as othe people.in fact,some are nicer and kinder.personally,they(Americans) should change their mentality and accept the fact that Muslims should be treated as equal.

maximum muslims are "white". the middle jap peoples who originated Islam in Arabia, Persia, Turkey, Egypt etc are individuals of the caucasian race. Islam unfold to Northern India, the Balkans and western Asia -- those persons are additionally caucasian.

People continue to be ignorant cause they are not taught things properly or they have been raised in a certain manner. To answer the title question: Ignorance.
