Performance! More power is always a good thing.
Besides, if you go for looks, you attract thieves and the police to your car. Thieves to steal it, and the cops, whose attention you grabbed, are now targeting you for speeding tickets.
$1000... maybe an improved cold-air induction system? (plus some other minor odds and ends)

I would save it personally. But in your case, looks will not impress anyone, maybe make a few people laugh at you. Performance at least you will have some fun with. If it were looks or performance, I would choose the latter, and add some HP. Honestly though you could use that money and money from selling that car and find maybe a 99 or 98 v8 mustang or one with a few more miles.
Reason I would save the money is becase you're screwed if you don't have any money to spare and something breaks on your car.

Too many people try to put HP in a car that was not meant to have any. If you want a performance car buy a GT. You can put an intake and maybe exhaust but I would not go any further than that. Go with the looks an a little performance.

Well that depends...its a 2000 so it probably doesnt have much damage to it so id say spend it on performance or maybe just paint it a custom color so it'll catch eyes that way cuz it should be fast anyway.

If you only got a grand than I would rather go with looks because performance for a grand wouldn't be a good performance upgrade like if you want atleast a perfect performance it would not go lower than I would say seven thousand dollars but anyway I have linked a website for you to check out to see some visual upgrades here they are:

Preformance, then looks. Whats the point of having a car that looks like it can go fast but can't, when you can have a car that is fast and doesn't look it. I'm doing something like that to my Ranger. I'm making a sleeper, the truck body has minor rust/scratches/dents, but with 450HP under the hood who cars what it looks like, just as long as it can take on anything on the road.

For a grand I say spray it with laughing gas and do what you can in the exhaust department.
Don't forget the purge valve, that way you add some looks that also add some safety to the motor.
