A drug on its own is not a bad thing.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"...A drug is any biological substance, synthetic or non-synthetic, that is taken for non-dietary needs. introduced into an organism to produce its action. it will produce some effects or alter some bodily functions (such as relieving symptoms, curing diseases or used as preventive medicine or any other purposes).
Natural endogenous biochemicals (such as hormones) can bind to the same receptor in the cell, producing the same effect as a drug. Thus, drug is merely an artificial definition that distinguishes whether that molecule is synthesized within an organism or outside an organism. For instance, insulin but if it is introduced into the body from outside, it is considered as a drug.
It is a substance which is not food, and which, when ingested, affects the functioning of the mind, or the body, or both. However, under the philosophy of Chinese medicine, food is also considered a drug as it affects particular parts of body and cures some diseases. Thus, food does satisfy the above definition of drug so long as ingestion of it would alter some bodily functions." End of quote.
I say law's prohibit illegal drugs(affecting the brain) for social reasons and as the case for marijuana for no good reason(compared to alcohol)....but the drugs we take at hospitals could have long term effects on are bodies...like foetuses...affecting the bodies capacities to create the brain of the baby so i say if i can't smoke legally so be it. There are more artificial drugs at hospitals than anywhere i know...Marijuana is a natural plant...like coffee.
Anyway back to the subject beware of any drug.
I speak from experience all drugs have secondary effects...even the legal ones.
Over the counter Pain killers(tylenol, advils) cause your brain to think it finished fixing your body.Thats why they say if the pain continues go see a physisian. They are just masking the problem,if there is one, hopping it goes away...
My final Conclusion:
Money and ignorance

Caffeine is a drug. No matter whatever food that are being sold, everything consumes drugs.
When a patient is ill and hospitalised for various reasons, doctor will give a prescription containing drugs. When drugs are taken within the limit, it will not create any kind of negative sympthoms in our body. But, if drugs are taken excessively (beyond the allowed limit), then it will be harmful for our health. Drugs contained in soda and coffee is as per limit which is approved by government.

I would think that caffeine would also be forbidden, as it is in Mormon beliefs, as a stimulant (not an intoxicant). However, coffee and cola would have been unknown at the time the "rules" for Islam were developed, and tea wouldn't yet have been as prevalent (the trade routes to India and China were only just starting to be opened, I believe), so it's effects wouldn't yet have been of any concern. I would think that, knowing what we know today, wine (in moderation) would be allowed, but not anything with caffeine. I would be surprised if Islam did not allow wine, as in many areas the water is not safe to drink and that is why wine is so popular, along with goat's milk.

I believe that caffeine is indeed a drug, but it is not added to coffee, it occurs naturally there. (And frankly I think in most cases addiction is far too strong a word.) And the kola nut, for which colas are named has more caffeine, naturally, than does coffee. As to why young people are allowed to consume it--that is up to their parents. BTW the reason it helps with certain types of headaches is that caffeine expands the blood vessels and allows better circulation.

I don't know if caffeine is officially recognised as a drug (I have a feeling it is, though), but it is definitely addictive, just like alcohol and nicotene.
Young people shouldn't be allowed to consume it, but the companies are going to keep putting it in their products as long as they're able to. No better way to guarantee sales than get your customers addicted to your product, is there?
It's not only young people who shouldn't be consuming it, though. Caffeine is ingested in dangerous amounts by a huge percentage of the population on a daily basis. The health problems this causes can be varied and sometimes quite serious, but addiction is a powerful thing, and most people I know who drink coffee refuse to give it up.
The only caffeine I get in my diet is from the two pieces of dark chocolate I eat on a daily basis. Dark chocolate is rich in polyphenols, amongst other things, and has real and measurable health benefits. The caffeine component is not enough to worry about.

It's freedom of choice. If you don't want your child to consume it, then it's up to your parenting to keep him off it--like alcohol or any other drug. This is a drug culture and we use them for all sorts of things. Many people want a daily stimulant in a convenient delivery system, like soda or coffee.
Nicotine, of course--the most addictive chemical known to man--makes far too much money for its purveyors to think about removing it from cigarettes.

I have much less issue with caffeine being available to teens then I do with the aluminum that is in almost every processed food we eat and is toxic to us. There is something very wrong at the FDA - we all need to figure out how to fix that.
Peace!

Because categorizing something as a drug doesn't mean it's illegal. For example, aspirin is also a drug.
A drug is simply "a substance that has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body"

The fact is that their are drugs and chemicals in many foods and drinks. Caffiene is simply a socially acceptable drug. If you are concerned about caffiene, you should be more concerned about the mega-doses found in energy drinks and no-doze. Caffiene is usually used as a buffer, meaning it helps delivery of medication. It is not really medicinal by itself.
