Anyone who has paid into Social Security for the minimum number of quarters can collect benefits at retirement age. There are many thousands of non-citizens and non-green-card-holders who worked for years in the US either with green cards or nonimmigrant working visas. Even if they retired to their home countries and gave up their rights as US immigrants, they are entitled to SS benefits and are collecting them, exactly as Americans who worked in certain foreign countries can collect retirement benefits from those countries, even if they have returned to retire in the US.

It USED to be true that illegals could not get the benefits that belonged to citizens of the United States - till Bush recently signed an "Executive Order" that made it so that citizens of Mexico could collect funds from a system originally set up to benefit the citizens of the United States. It never was set up to benefit anyone other than that - till Bush got into office that is....
That all very well could change since Congress is coming back from their Christmas break.
Many have no thought as to this even having happened as I haven't even heard of it on any of the news sources. I only found out about it recently from a Senior Citizens political group.

I don't mean to be too rude....but if your not an American citizen you shouldn't get the benefits that AMERICAN CITIZENS work hard for. I believe that if you are going to set foot in this country for a better life that life shouldn't be handed over to you. Learn English (it is the official language), get a job, become a citizen and then you can collect SS.

Not true. If you here LEGALLY, and if you work and pay into Social Security for 40 quarters (10 years) you get benefits.

False. Green card holders do collect ss benefits. And that's fair. Work here legally, pay into the system, get the benefits of the system..... seems ok to me.

Some countries have about an equal number of our people there as they have people here, and there are agreements in place between our countries on that point. Others don't.
