Home Depot was here for quite awhile until Lowe's built a place just before the holidays. I've checked both out and the prices seem comparable although they don't always carry the same national brands for a true comparison. Lowe's people seem more helpful, but that could be because they're new and are trying to win customers over. I find it very hard to find anything in either place--I don't think the store is layed out in a customer-friendly way.

After tonight's news I'll only shop at Lowe's. The head of Home Depot was let go--with a buyout of $210 million. As one commentator said that's a golden parachute for some and a fortune for others. I don't care if he wasn't bringing in the money or making the stock owners happy, that kind of money is obscene. If they have that kind of money to throw around, they don't need mine. Besides, to pay for this guy's buyout they'll probably raise their prices even more than they did with the excuse of Katrina.

What I have noticed is that it depends on what city/state you reside in...some Home Depots are geared more toward the contractor and vice versa...Some Lowes are geared more toward the average consumer, but I still choose Home Depot because they tend to have some of everything and Lowes doesn't. Lowes prices seem to be the same from state to state, but they tend to deal with the average consumer in terms of decorating the home, rather than improving the home like Home Depot does...Gosh all that just to say...HOME DEPOT...my bad...but hey that was a very thought provoking consumer related GOOD question...Enjoy and be Safe...(smiles)

Definetely Home Depot. They are closer... Lowes is about 45 minutes from where I live and they never sent us a sale paper until Home Depot came about 10 minutes from the house. I plan on never going there again. If they wanted me to shop there before they should have sent out papers then.

Where I live we don't have Home Depot which I love, we have Lowes or Menards, I'm not a big fan of Lowes so I choose Menards. They are cheaper on most of the items I've looked for.

Lowe's ..........For one thing you can check out the merchandise on line.
Try Home Depot search they never know what I mean! You can't contact on line for information. Lowe's at least responds to e-mail.
I just recently did some remodeling Lowes employees are right there to help, and very informative
