Is it the thrill of killing something, or to put meat on the table?? I'm just trying to understand the mentality of stomping around in the cold waiting for a creature to walk by. I watched a man sit in a tree in the field across from my house for a week!!! I can understand it if it's food on the table, my Dad did that. I have deer in my freezer I will never, ever touch that my brother in-law gave me. No offense--just trying to understand. I've found deer in my woods -- just the antlers cut off-- is this the exception?? I've got 100 acres that I've just banned from hunters because of this!!

Well so far I've found most of you are what I would call "good" hunters. I've not allowed hunting on my property for 5 years now, so these are sneakers that come in, kill the deer and take the antlers. I hope I meet a "good hunter" soon!!!

For the meat. I'm 2 generations out of the tee-pee. My mom was raised eating what was hunted by my grandfather and he was still actively hunting when I was younger. So of course I acquired a taste for wild meat (caribou, moose, and duck are my favourites). When I hunt it isn't for sport. I eat the animal and I give the hide to crafters. The only difference between my meat and a beef is that mine is waay fresher and I kill it myself (instantly) instead of having someone else do it for me in God only knows what fashion or sanitary conditions. I'm not offended, just so you know, and I've never sat in a tree for a week LOL! I know when to quit and go to Safeway.

Alot of people hunt because it's tradition, some do it just because it's fun, some do it to get away from everything, and then there are those idiots that just do it to kill something. I know what you mean by finding a deer with the antlers cut off. A year or two ago, I was out turkey hunting on a friend's place, and we found the same thing. Someone had shot a deer and just taken the antlers. That's wrong. They could have at least donated the meat to someone who needed it. Anything I kill, that's fit to eat, I eat it.

First of all was the antlerless deer dead? If not...they do fall off naturally every year. But some of the reasons I hunt is the solitude of man (the human sense, no offence to women) and nature. Also I believe a wild roast taste much better then cow and much much much cheaper. Hunting is just another reason to get away from society, like hicking, climbing, and fishing. But no you complains about a big hook in a fishs mouth for over 5 minutes of tugging. Im sorry for your experiences with the antlerless deer if they where dead, those hunters give the sport a bad name and hopfully you meet a real hunter that respect the animal and truely wants to share a piece of their ancesteral past.

To kill a deer when you're hunting is really just a small if not the smallest part of why I hunt.I love to be out in the woods, being quiet, seeing the wildlife move around, unaware that you are there.Hearing all the birds, breathing in the cool fresh air.Being able to think !! Anyone that would kill a deer take the antlers and leave the rest is not a hunter, but a disrespectful azzhole.I would personally smack a person that did this along side of their head if I caught them doing such a thing.Remember that the money that hunters pay for licenses etc.aid all wildlife !! Please don't let one bad apple spoil it for everyone. So;can I hunt on your property ??

I hunt to put food on the table and to spend s much time as i can with my father in the woods. We go out every time possible and we pass up on more then we shoot. It is just as enjoyable to set in my stand and watch the deer play in the fields. and when the freezer gets low we take one. As for shooting just for the antlers is wrong and these are the people that give hunting a bad rep..

I recently got back from Iraq. I was home on leave in Arkansas. My brother, dad, and I went duck hunting every morning. I have never spent suck quality time laughin and talking with them. We laughed because we can't shoot and we also killed a few. That time spent with them was special. Then later cleaning them and cooking them. I think alot of it is the time you spend out there with family and friends makes it special. I think another reason is that hunters are people who like to be challenged. When you hunt ducks or turkeys or any animal for that matter its a challenge. I think alot of prople love the challenge. The main reason for me is that I love the meat. There is nothing like wild animal its great, but its not for everyone. Just remember almost all hunters are good people they are the ones who spend money out of their pocket to give to organizations to help preserve the wildlife. Yes hunters kill, but we also give back to help keep animals alive and around so my kids can enjoy hunting as much as me. As for people cuttin off just the antlers i would love to hunt those people, thats disrespectful to the animals. I believe hunting is all about respecting the animal and never underestimating them. Thats why I love hunting, its a challenge.

To spend quality time with family, time by myself, and most importantly to be a PETA (Person Eating Tasty Animals). Deer makes up at least 2 evening meals a week.

I hunt for food #1, But I do have to admit that I love it. I am 43 years old and have never killed a game animal and left it lay, at least not intentionally.
I have found dead bucks & bulls and cut the racks off though.

I always eat what I shoot. I do not have any trophies, I do have venison in the freezer.
It is something I can do with my dad. I am grown and he does not get around as well as he used to. Still the thrill of hunting is there for him. It really is a father/ son thing
