The New Testament is not in opposition to the Old Testament. It is the completion of all the the Old Testament was saying. If there is no divine inspiration, no validity to the Old Testament, then there was no God to be satisfied, no sin debt to be paid, no Messiah to be sent. It has been said, that the Old Testament is really the New Testament concealed, and the New Testament is really the Old Testament revealed. And so it is. Think about it. The Old Testament is the statement of the problem, and the promise for the cure, and the New Testament is the arrival of the promised cure, and the promise of resolving all things that are not yet resolved. Just as the promise of the Old Testament was fulfilled by the coming of Jesus the Messiah, so the fulfillment of the promise made in the New Testament will come - at the end of this age we are living in now.

Jesus quoted from the Old Testament. You cannot read the New Testament without running into people, places, and incidents from the Old.
Jesus was prophesied about in the Old Testament. These prophesies were fulfilled in the New Testament.
The whole Bible is the Word of God and must be taken literally. These stories from Genesis are true and must be taken literally. Revelation is a book in which a lot of prophecies predicted will happen.

My guess is in the old testament....
I mean if you believe the bible as truth, why would one part saying another part is true matter? Should there be a passage in the new testament that says "Oh, and all the other stuff before this... That was true too."
That said, while trusting the bible to say another part of the bible is true is rather naive, being Christian and not beileving in the literal word of the bible at all, or partially, is fine with me, it's just putting faith in it to qualify you as something which you yourself decide whether you are or not that's ridiculous. The bible was written by men, compiled by men, and translated and copied a million times over by men, it's completely illogical to believe that even if it was entirely inspired by God that it isn't subject to error.

It don't..... but why should that mater to you... you do not believe any of it any way... so you need not bother even reading it... there is nothing in The Bible for the non-believer. The Bible is not intended for the non_believer.... You can read it all yo want and yo will never find any thing in it that is for you and yo will never have any true understanding of what is in it.... Only those open to the leading of The Holy Spirit will find in The Bible what God has there for them..... your question here makes it very clear that you have no understanding of The Bible....No one of The True Christian Faith "worships" The Bible. There is no requirement to even own a Bible to be of The True Christian Faith.... I did not own a Bible on The day of my Salvation and had not even read in one for a very long time...The Faith of The True Christian is not in a book but in the absolute Truth of God and His Word and Will for the individual... True study of The Bible can only begin after one becomes of The True Christian Faith

Don't have to take it literally? But Jesus did!
Luke 4:16 He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. (Q) As usual, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath day (R) and stood up to read. (S) 17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to Him, and unrolling the scroll, He found the place where it was written:...20 He then rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. (V) And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 He began by saying to them, "Today as you listen, this Scripture has been fulfilled.".
Since, Jesus did not complain or even comment that the OT was wrong, but instead supports it, I don't see how decent christians can excuse themselves from the OT.

One either believes or does not. How would someone decide what parts to believe otherwise? WHy believe what John says about Jesus (or anything else)? Why look to the text to say anything? And there is no book called "Revelations"; the actual biblical book is Revelation (of John).
The problem is, no matter how the Bible is interpreted, there are too many contradictions to possibly believe everything it says. Christians are spinning their wheels.

Jesus quoted the old testament many times. We learn from the old testament. If you don't believe in the whole Bible as truth then the Bible is null and Void. No one can pick and chose what they believe and don't believe. The whole book is either true or false. I believe it is True all the way through. The old testament teaches us how to live, and what not to do. The promise of Jesus came from Genesis. The end is coming, and if you don't believe it is true. I feel sorry for you.

You have pinpointed my biggest frustration with Christianity today. When Jesus came along, he said (to paraphrase), "I'm the new law." If you are a CHRISTIAN, obviously you should follow Christ's words, which are certainly kinder and gentler than the Old Testament. You know, "turn the other cheek," instead of "an eye for an eye." I get very frustrated when "Christians" justify their hateful actions with obscure Old Testament scripture, when it's clear that Christ presented a different set of rules to follow.
BTW, I went to a Baptist kindergarten & preschool, and 12 years of Catholic school, but I'm now an atheist.

If you're going to be a Christian, you have to believe that God gave us His Son, He died to save us from our sins, and rose again to join his Father. You have to ask him into your heart and accept him.
The Bible is NOT the literal word of God it is the INSPIRED Word of God.
As far as taking the stories literally, it's all in how they are interpreted to you or how you interpret them yourself. This can be done (and has been done) numerous different ways. Sometimes just to suit the reader.
