I will be traveling with 35 other people staying in Dromod Co. Leitrim outside of Longford. We want to take a day trip via the train to Dublin and or Galway. How can we plan ahead and find out where to get the train, how long it take, the cost etc.

The Sligo to Dublin train passes through Dromod Station which is about 3 minutes walk from Dromod town centre. (Site 1) You can download a printable timetable for the Dublin Connolly - Sligo route at site 2. It is just under a 2 hour journey.

Sample intercity fares can be seen at site 3

"Discounts for Small or Large Groups (minimum 10 persons):
We offer special discounts to small or large groups travelling together on InterCity and will be delighted to reserve seats for you, subject to availability. And, if required, we will provide connecting services by coach at very attractive rates. Ask at any Iarnród Éireann Travel Centre or Station.
All Group Travel is subject to confirmation of availability. As a rule, groups cannot be accepted on Fridays and Sundays due to lack of accommodation.

There is no direct rail route from Dromod to Galway you would have to go via Dublin, which would be a journey time of 6 hours.

You can get to Galway from Longford by bus which is a two and a half hour journey. You can download the bus time table for the Galway-Mountbellew-Roscommon-Longford route at site 4 below.

The bus fares shown on the site only apply to travel from Dublin. I would guess that a monthly return ticked should cost 20 euro or less.

You must take a bus to Derry. The train from Derry to Dublin is about 3.5 hours. You stop in Belfast Central (not any other train station in Belfast) and get the Enterprise to Dublin. This train makes 4 stops (Portadown, Newry, Dundalk, Drogheda) but stops eventually at Dublin Connolly and takes 2 hours from Belfast. Check out the N.Ireland Raiways or Irish rail website to get the timetables.

By using the website of Irish Rail http://www.irishrail.ie/home/
- this is easier to find by doing a websearch than asking the question here.
