My husband's company is transfering an employee from another store in to his store. My husband is the manager of the store. This employee is in the end stages of hepitis c. This employee's wife told me in October that he is dieing and he doesn't know it. I am raising 2 very young grandchildren and I need to know just how contagious this disease is in the end stages. He was getting chemo but I am not sure if he still is. I know that if he bleeds that it has to be cleaned up and the area washed down with bleach. This is a furniture store and they pick up, deliver and assemble furniture all the time. It is not unusual for my husband to come home with dried blood on his arm or leg or face and him not even realise he has hurt himself. If this guy bleeds on something and it isn't noticed and taken care of properly, could it cause a problem.

By the way, the guy has never been a drug user and never had a surgery or transfusion. He has no isea how he got the disease.

Yes Hepatitis C is contagious, but it is no more contagious in the later stages then the early ones. Believe it or not its only more contagious when someone has just been infected, reason is that the persons immune system has not yet fully reacted to it. The only sure fire way to become infected yourself (or family) is to come in contact with the blood of the infected person. If the blood comes in contact with your hand or arm/leg or so forth you will NOT be infected if you wash it off. The infected blood must enter your body, like thru your eyes, mouth, or a cut in your skin.
Best advice is to be extra careful.
Added note - the infected person most likely got infected thru sex with an infected person. This is by far the most common way this infection is spread. ~A~

Hepatitis C is transmitted only from blood to blood. Your husband would have to get this guy's blood into his own veins in order to be infected. Universal precautions should always be used when dealing with blood or bodily fluids because you never know who has what disease, and in many cases the persons themselves don't know they have hep c because it is often asymptomatic. If this man is truly in end stage, I don't see how he would be able to work there long. In end stage you become very sick and very fatigued.Best wishes to your husband and his employee.

infectious diseases are transmittable if both parties are blood bound .... like blood and an open wound to receive the infected blood it's not contagious as in via the air . chances are very slim to transmit this through furniture moving unless of course they are gay or something out of the ordinary . if your are afraid of simultaneous cuts get your husband some gloves made to protect against this like the police supply stores or EMT people have.
peace out

many people have trouble narrowing down when they came in contact with hep b and c, becuase they have such long dormancy periods. the best i can suggest is be knowldgeable about pathogens in the work place, and make sure people are just causious, regardless if someone has hep c or not, everybody should be cautious with blood and other potential health risks. the risk factor is really down to blood
