I am giving my bridesmaids earrings and something else for the wedding. How do I make sure they do not go out and get earrings for their dresses? Do I tell them I am providing the earrings?

That sounds like the sensible thing to do, it is common for the bride-to-be to buy jewellry for the attendants.
I would mention that you are buying earrings for them and it would be nice if they wore them on THE day.
Congtratulations, by the way.

You mentioned two gifts. Tell them about the earrings and the other will be a surprise.

yup let them know. I was in my friends wedding party and on a tight budget at the time. She didn't let us know and so I went out and bought earings. i really wished I would have known.

There is a great site I used when I got married. It is www.theknot.com

It has answers to all the etiquettes in getting married. I used it a lot. I hope this helps.
