He speaks to us through His Word, the bible, through His Spirit, through open and closed doors, through others, through His creation and yes, sometimes it seems we cannot hear His still small voice-happens to all of us-
It has frustrated me when the answers seem obscure, even in the Bible-one of His greatest requirement is "without FAITH it is impossible to please ME>"
What we take for His silence is sometimes a way of testing our faith-and our impatience shows us how little we are trusting Him. We can surrender all to Him, as you said you have done-but your impatience isn't surrendered. I know that sounds simplistic-I struggle at times too-with impatience.I want answers and I want them yesterday!
Beware of the enemy who gives us all those doubts, frustrations, yes, even anger that God seems not to hear or care about us,our situations,trials,longings.....-
They that WAIT upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." The waiting is the hard part. I want Him to write directions for me on the wall as He did in King Nebuchadnezzar's palace-doesn't happen, bummer...but keep faith in Him-He has a purpose in delaying or witholding til just the right time, the answers you seek. And remember, God does not have to explain Himself. He IS GOD.
Maybe, after the two events you mentioned, You long too much for emotions, experiences, evidences-all are "sight" things-not walking by faith. Also if we harbor wrong spirits, unforgiveness, pride, etc. we are not surrendered. Keep looking UP-dont' give in to the devil who seeks to destroy your faith in God! Remember how God allowed Job to be tested by satan and Job, even in his anguish, cried out "Yea though He slay me, yet will I trust Him" trust-faith-the main thing is Jesus died to redeem us from the penalty of sin and we will be with Him eternally-meditate on that and know that He knows your longing and hears your prayers
I know you are sincere but you almost seem to be trying to manipulate Him by alll you "gave" Him-He says "Be still, and know that I am God"-quit the "doing" and just worship Him for Who He is -die to self. so hard to do,isn't it..I pray above all else that you have His peace in this time of trial and struggles.

Maybe you have unknowingly turned away from him and can no longer hear him...maybe you are expecting one thing and not listening for the whisper that is constantly underneath all things and never goes silent. But you have to stop expecting things; they create interference.
P.S. To doktordbel above: Perhaps your citation of Lord of the Rings is more apt than you realize. The magic and obvious signs that occurred in the past would be like unto Frodo's journey during the War of the Ring and Frodo's disillusionment after all the fireworks have stopped and all he has are his memories and his injuries. Frodo is healed by going West with the Elves; he leaves Middle Earth and walks into Faery. That isn't a solution for humans, obviously, but there is a psychological parallel there, and it is important that one does not fall into the mire of lapsarian longing. That is what truly makes a person old. Frodo's friends, on the other hand, build anew from the ruins and make futures for themselves, while never forgetting their friends from the past...it is a delicate balance and it does not do to bend one's ear too hard to hear the voices when there is life to be lived and good to be done in this world.

It may be of some comfort to know that this same experience of God seeming to be silent happened to both Job and David in the Bible. Job is described as a man who "was blameless and upright - a man who feared God and shunned evil" while David is described as "a man after God's own heart". So, you are in good company. This silence something I have experienced and many others I know of as well.
For me, sometimes I am so busy and keep myself occupied that it's hard to hear Him. Other times, I find I'm not really trying to listen. It sounds like you are trying to listen. Keep reading your Bible and stay in prayer. Spend some time meditating on some favorite scripture. In Psalm 46 He tells us to "Cease striving and know that I am God". It's often hard for me to quit fighting God, myself, and who knows what to listen. But, even when God seems silent - He still is at work.
Eliminate all distractions, even music and sit in solitude. I would not even begin to know why God seems silent. Sometimes God will speak through other people or give a clear sense of His leading. Also make sure to deal with any sinful behavior God makes you aware of so that doesn't hinder your ability to hear Him. God is able to speak to us and I will pray for a break through for you. It'd be good to ask for others for prayer in this matter. God bless you.

You may not be LDS but I would like to share a scripture that is fitting to your situation.
Mosiah 2:21-22, "I say unto you that if ye should serve him who has created you from the beginning, and is preserving you from day to day, by lending you breath, that ye may live and move and do according to your own will, and even supporting you from one moment to another—I say, if ye should serve him with all your whole souls yet ye would be unprofitable servants. And behold, all that he requires of you is to keep his commandments; and he has promised you that if ye would keep his commandments ye should prosper in the land; and he never doth vary from that which he hath said; therefore, if ye do keep his commandments he doth bless you and prosper you."
So you see, with all your doing, your doing too much. All God is asking us is to keep his commandments. Don't pray for 5 hrs a day. Just keep the commandment. Remember the Lord said in the New Testament John 14:15, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." Not if ye love me spend 5-10 hrs a day praying. There is no commandment saying you have to pray that long.

God is not silent, we are deaf and blind. We don´t see his signals. When we are going walking down one street and we decide to turn right to take a shortcut and we listen to a voice saying "don´t go that way", what do we do? Most of us, just don´t pay attention to that voice and do what we want to. Every single day when we wake up, God is saying: I´m giving you a chance to be a good and honest person, to keep my laws, to help the ones who need you, to talk without cursing. To make your soul glows, going to the church, confessing your sins and taking the communion as often as possible. Believe me, He´s with you, he loves you and cares for you. Sometimes, we just cannot understand his way. That´s all seeker! I hope i helped you :)
God bless you!!!

There is more to seeking God than just sitting in prayer and meditation. We are called to step out of our comfort zone to spread the Gospel and to do good works, because of the Grace we have recieved. Have Faith, God will speak to you in ways you will never expect.

God speaks to us through His word the Bible. If you want to hear Him all you have to do is read the Bible.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17) . . .All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.

In my opinion, the creator is not silent. It's just that the noise of the world, our bodies, and our culture is so loud. Whoever or whatever our source is, I don't believe anything is asked from us but to try to be as real and honest as we can be about who we are, and to be kind to others and ourselves. Youth dies, everything fades, the only eternal force is the creator. We are all in the same boat, my dear. The creator is the pilot, we are safe, and we have plenty of company. Peace.

Maybe He isn't ready for you yet, to do whatever He has planned for you. Have you read the Footprints poem ? Maybe He's there and you dont realize it. Maybe you are like Job ... being tested. Just be patient, and continue to serve, and be a good example of a Christian to others. Also, I believe God has no clock, you waiting 5 years is like a millisecond to Him.

some human beings credit God's voice to their inner experience of right and incorrect and reasoning skills. A non-non secular individual, we could say as an occasion needs to earn $40 to purchase a sparkling pair of boots, this individual walks down the sreet comtemplating a thank you to realize this, and that they see somebody drop 40 money. it may be stealing to take it and besides, incorrect to no longer supply the a refund to the guy. so as that they think of to themselves and say "i can continually earn the money with out commiting against the regulation. no would desire to thieve, so i assume i'm going to offer the a refund". a non secular individual, frequently Christian human beings, could bypass throughout the comparable theory technique and quote a scipture from the bible that announces something like "Thou shalt no longer thieve", coupled with "God is honest and easily to grant your needs". This individual then thank you God for wispering his honest be conscious into their non secular ears (a.ok.a. reminiscence), and is going on and earns the money interior the comparable way that a non-non secular individual could. (interest etc.) yet another occasion is how some say they seize "revelation" from god. yet this happens everday. Did you no longer seize a "revelation" or a severe be-careful call while u wakened on the instant? For me, i wakened and observed that my room grew to become into grimy, so i wiped sparkling it. From a non secular point of view, they may well be examining the Bible and examine that they might desire to offer up undesirable conduct like smoking or fornication, because of the fact it 'displeases God'. the two incidents are precisely the comparable top?
