I have a co-worker who goes out of his way to bully people around while the boss is not around. He acts very unprofessional to co-workers. He will steal a client from another co-worker-we work in the HAIR/BARBER industry. He will cut down another co-workers work to get the client to come back into his chair causing the client to have doubt about their last haircut. He will give his business card to a client who has never been in the business or sat in his chair but has just recieved a cut from another cutter. He will stand over a 78 year old woman (who is a barber) and tell her it is his turn for a haircut when its not, to try and make it look like the other person is out of turn for receiving clients-thus trying to jump ahead of him. He is arrogant, money hungry and greedy. He once bought flowers for all the woman in the shop. Rather then let the clients notice his good deed, he has to point out to clients "see what a nice guy I am, I bought all the ladies flowers today". Please help!

If he's not like this when the boss is around, telling your boss won't help any (unless others complain too). I would talk with your other co-workers to see how they feel about this annoyance and if they feel the same, you should all work together to shut him out. You can do this by joining him in his little game- approach his clients and hand them your card- "monkey see, monkey do". If you all do this to him, but not each other, he'll slowly lose his clientel. This doesn't make you a bully- survival of the fittest. If you don't want to go that route, you and your co-workers should sit him down and talk to him, let him know you don't appreciate his uncoothly ways of business.

There's a lot of verses in there to help the bullies with bullying. Fewer for the bullied. Sometimes a little violence is the answer. Don't make a habit of it. And don't do anything that is going to escalate into something really dangerous. But if going to detention for 3 days keeps you from being bullied for years it's worth it. I got in one fight my first year of middle school. And one fight my freshman year. And I was HS valedictorian and went to Boy's State, so one fight isn't necessarily going to tank your record. What did Jesus do when he saw people making money in the temple? He threw them out. Twice.

How about a formal meeting with the boss, the offending barber, and the other co-workers? There should be a code of conduct followed in the business, and the boss ought to be in control.

Well I'm in middle school so in my mind bullies are all the worse... Without bullieing him back i would think my parents would just say to ignore it but that never works! Tell him to quit being so arrogant and that if he doesn't quit this non-sense he won't ever get anywhere in life...... Hey it worked on my bully it can do the same for yours!

Talk to the boss (PROFESSIONALLY) and be VERY mature. Don't sound whiny and say "Bob is being mean." or "Joe is a jerk, make him stop." or something like that. It's going to take guts though. Explain to your boss the issue. Best of luck to you!
