Digital Thermometer Question...?

What does the "L" mean in the digital box area? Basically, it means "take the temperature," but what does it actually stand for??

It stands for "Low"...meaning that the temperature is not high enough to register. If will come on when you turn on the thermometer and also if the thermometer is not placed correctly resulting in too low of a reading (below 89.6).
