Well I just got a new HDTV today and it has an intregrated ATCS tuner and wanted to know what kind of antenna I should buy. I think I live around 15-20 miles away from the tower. How much do you guys think it will cost me? Thanks.

If I use an antenna, will I be able to get the basic HD stuff like ESPNHD? I have basic cable already.

Heres a few links that will help you out. The first one answers your question directly "what kind of antenna". Just follow the link, it will ask for your address but the zip code is all that required, and it will give you a map. click continue and you get a detail of channels available to your area. The color code on the left will corresponds to different antenna types.

The next links are general HD and digital broadcasting info that you might find interesting.

As far as getting espn your probably out of luck since the cable companies own it and want you to have to pay to get it.

I bought my antenna for $65 but if I had visited the first link first I would have bought the $80 one. I get 36 channels and I live 35-50 miles from most of the transmitters.

Oh yeah and a "digital antenna" is just a regular antenna with a digital sticker on it.

I used just a regular UHF antenna on my set before I got a HD cable box. You will probably get about 3 channels in HD if you use an antenna. I would spend the extra $10 or so dollars a month and get digital cable. For comcast subscribers, there is only about a $7 per month difference between regular cable with about 65 channels and the cheap digital cable package, which gives you about 200 channels, 24-hour music channels, and about 20 HD channels. If you are already paying for cable, just step it up.

You are very close to the local broadcast tower and probably just need an interior UHF antenna. I have included links to a website that will assist you in determining which antennae type you’ll need and another website with a photo of the most common exterior HDTV / UHF antennae.

You should receive all major broadcast networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, PBS, etc.) in glorious High Definition!

ESPN, HBO, Showtime, CNN, MSNBC, etc are not broadcast networks. They can only be had with cable or satellite.

You can go to your local electronics store and by an HD antenna. It should cost you between $25-$50 depending on which brand you buy.

If you search for HD antenna at Amazon's web site, you will see what you need.

It will not give you very many HD channels, but it just depends on what you are looking for.
