You can put Neosporin on it, but it won't make it heal that much quicker. I had a cat that had something like that happen to him and the vet ended up having to give us a special ointment for animals which will help heal it much faster. I don't remember what it was called, but it was about $12 for a 1 ounce tube.

Hi there...most likely your cat has received a bite wound and will develop an abscess. This is commonly seen in outdoor cat fights. An abscess needs to be drained and cleaned ONLY with soap and water please NOT hydrogen peroxide which pushes the bacteria back down into the infected wound. Ideally, a vet should do this to minimize scarring and further infection. Cats can develop a fever as a result of the infection therefore it would be best to ring a vet and have your cat evaluated to treat respectively. Some cats require a short course of prescribed antibiotic.

Although, people mean well here in Yahoo Answers, please remember any medical suggestions could cause your cat more harm than help so it's best to only entrust a licenced medical professional rather than any of us strangers -- myself included.

The spots are most likely to be ringworm. Cats pick them up from infected gardens or yards. They are contagious but relatively simple to treat. You do need to go to the vet though and the vet will confirm if they are ringworm. Treatment consists of antibiotics (for secondary infection) and an anti-fungal cream. Meantime, clean the sores with hydrogen peroxide. When my cat had ringworm, I cleaned his sores with hydrogen peroxide before applying the antifungal cream. He also had amoxicillin oral anibiotic and the sores cleared up in a little more than a week.

If he was ill before it may be a good idea to get him checked. It could be an ulcer. If he wasnt very sick he may have gotten in a tussle with another cat or just hurt himself. Neosporin is fine, but avoid hydrogen peroxide because it will kill the healthy tissue around the wound. You may want to get some amoxi-drops or clavamox (both are antibiotics) from your vet!

If he's an outdoor cat, then it is likely he has been bitten...he'll need to go to the vet for antibiotics. The bite just probably caused a small puncture wound that you wouldn't even notice, and because cats are so tough, he probably didn't let you know.

could be ringworm and the cat has scratched it. Clean it with hydrogen peroxide but don't touch it in case it might be ringworm (contagious). If by tomorrow it begins to look like a circle, then it could be ringworm and you need to take kitty to the vet for treatment (which is relatively simple and not expensive).

Clean it with half water and half peroxide which isn't too drying and leave it open to the air. Studies show alcohol not only hurts but can slow down healing. With no signs of infection like increased swelling, foul smell, or pus drainage, your cat should do well. Add a minute amount of neosporin ointment if you prefer. It isn't as necessary as cleaning it twice a day. I know he will get better soon. Have a purrfect new year.

The suggestions here are good, but the question we all need to know is: Is he an outdoor cat?

It sounds like he got into a fight with another cat.

pour some hysrogen peroxide on it, and then put some neosprin, but be sure to clean it out good with the h2o2, he wont like it much, but hold him down and do it, sounds to me like he got bitten, when cats fight, they go for the neck, and if its a hole, and not a scratch, he more than likely got bitten. put neosporin on it for a week or so, if it doenst get better, take him to a vet
