well my mom is looking for a good, non-shedding, non-oder, dog. & im also having a baby here soon & she wants a dog thats good with kids. So whenever i take my daughter over to her house the dog isnt jumping all over the baby or isnt trying to like bite or anything at the baby just cause kids arent that dogs favorite thing. any suggestions? she's thinking about looking into rescueing/adopting one if she can find one she likes but she needs to look for a good breed.
thanks

A Chinese Crested is the only (toy) dog registered with the AKC as being good with kids. They come in hairless (They look like a clydesdale horse) no odor and breed standard is between 6 and 13 lbs. They do some as small as 6 lbs. If you do not like the hairless they do come in a full coat that does not shed. These have to be brushed so you do not get matted fur. I own one hairless and one Puff, if you want more information on the breed E-Mail me. I left the link for a Crested rescue, they are all over the US. All dogs will jump unless you train them not to.

All dogs are basically friendly, especially to kids and women, but I think you should get a really small dog if you are scared the dog may hurt the baby, so that it cannot reach the baby when it is too carried away. I would suggest a Chihuahua which is the smallest species. But maybe some bigger ones like Toy Poodles or Pomeranians may as well do!!
*You are so lucky to have a dog! Congratulations! Good luck!

Maltese. Our Maltese is the sweetest, most loving dog I've ever encountered (in my 30 yrs). She is great around children AND older folks (she's not rambunctious and doesn't scratch people). Our Shih-Tzu who just passed a month ago was another story... although he was good with kids, he was unpredictable. He was also quite territorial and a biter (even bit the hands that fed him - and no, we did not abuse him!). Our Shih-Tzu would shed a little, occasionally, but our Maltese never sheds (and I mean never!). The Maltese does require a bit more grooming because of the all white fur, but after 5 years with our Malty I highly recommend this breed! They're sweethearts! Good luck to your mom and congratulations (baby) to you! :)

We have two peek-a-poo,s and he loves our eleven grandchildren especially the babies. Always and I can't stress this point enough, always allow a dog have his own place (we use a kennel) where he can go to avoid children if they (the children or dog) begin to play to rough and do not allow anyone to enter that safe place for your dog. Our peek-a-poo's do not shed (their hair is more like human hair), good grooming will take care of the oder, very smart and easy to train, and last but not least very, very loveable.

no breed of dog is non shedding. even short haired breeds shed, sometimes even worse than the medium or long haired breeds. any breed of dog can make a great pet. even pit bulls, rottwielers, and dobermans. it depends on the owners and the discipline and dedication they give to training the dog. rescue/adoption is always a great idea. dogs that make great family pets though are the usual labs and golden retrievers. make sure you do your research before you finally decide on a breed. large breed dogs tend to have a lot of joint and health problems(some from inbreeding in the past). labs and other large breed dogs are known to have hip displaysia, which can be very expensive to correct. most small dogs tend to be hyper. terriers are one of them, although not all terriers are small. small dogs dont have as many health issues as the large breeds do and most live longer than the large breeds. don't just focus on the purebreds. many of the great dogs are mixed breeds. you get the best and sometimes worst of both worlds. and they can be smarter than the origional breeds. there are also the hybrid breeds such as the labradoodles, goldendoodles, peak a poos, puggles, and schnoodles. just make sure you do your research. good luck!!

shih tzu's are good dogs that do not shed and are excellent with kids. I have 3 kids and my dog thinks he is one of the kids. And, they do not shed at all. NOTHING. There hair is almost like human hair. You just need to keep their hair short or brushed often.

Good luck.

I say getting a Yorkshire Terrier. Mine is very friendly, but they need to be trained to remain calm around kids. My Yorkie often jumps up to greet kids.
