I switched to home schooling when I was in the 7th grade and loved it. School was awful for me and there was nothing that I hated more than getting up to go each day to go there. Now that I go to school online (flvs.net) I'm much happier.

If you keep yourself busy with friends when you aren't working then you don't have to worry about getting lonely. Plus you have a lot more free time on your hands because the work doesn't take as long and you get to move along at your own pace. I've also found that I'm learning WAY more doing school online than I ever learned with all of the distractions of a class room.

However, dealing with the way people look at kids that are homeschooled can be tough sometimes. Lots of the time people think of homeschooled kids as little science club nerds with thick glasses and no friends. It doesn't bother you after you realize that you are homeschooled and are nothing like that though.

It's a big decision but I think you'd be happy with it. Especially if you hate school. Just remember to stay motivated or you will get behind.

Depends on why you hate school. If it is the work, homeschooling will be harder because you have to be motivated on your own. If is the people, homeschooling may work. But you have to look at yourself too. Sometimes it is other people who are the problem and you really are innocent, but sometimes it is partially you. If there is something you can see inside yourself (you don't have to admit it to anyone else) that may be part of the problem, try to work on that either in school or at home because if you don't then you will have those problems chasing you your whole life. Eventually you will have college, or a job and you will have to do stuff you don't like in order to succeed. As long as you know that, and are able to do it, then homeschooling is fine. But if you think it will be easy or you will get to sleep in and watch TV all day, stick with school. At least you won't be fighting with your mom all the time.

If you hate school, than it is doubtful you will learn anything. If you are homeschooled you can learn at your own pace in a comfortable environment. If you are worried about making your own schedule, keeping track of transcripts ETC. you can always do an online school. It's called E-Learning. It is public school, it's free and they take care of the scheduling and everything. All it requires is self-motivation. But you still have to go to a testing site to take the state tests and you have a different teacher for each subject, you have a counsler, homeroom ETC. But it is really up to you. You are the only one who knows what you want. If you feel you should leave school, than leave school.

A lot of people think you will miss out on so much stuff, but trust me, you won't. Almost all E-Schools have proms and extra-curricular activities. Most towns and cities have sports where you don't need to be in public school to sign up. Also, think about what your school environment is like now. Are you being teased? Are there drinking/drugs? Do you agree with the way it is being run?

Go for it! You're a lot more independent when studying now. Check your state or provincial requirements about homeschooling. Look for local homeschooling associations in your area---you wouldn't believe the amount of support and wonderful people and fellow homeschooling students you'll meet there. You'd wish you'd never gone to school.

As for those who say you'd miss out on a lot of sociallization, you would---that is, negative socialization. Proms? Parties? If you believe in yourself, that you don't need these things to have a good self worth, then you're on your way. Homeschoolers also do have parties, lots of field trips, and lots of opportunities to meet people who are not only in their age group. It's exciting. It's time to educate the "schooled" that homeschooled students are not in a jail-like situation at home where they are kept there studying most of the time, not being able to "socialize"! In fact homeschoolers have the most flexible time so they can use the rest of the day after studying, and before all the rest have finished schooling, to do other worthwhile tasks like volunteering, interning or doing part-time work if they so wish!

Read more about homeschooling in the library and in the net.

All the best to you.

I think one thing you should try not to do is let fear rule your decision. Like if you're scared about something about school then that's probably not a good reason to quit school. I also think that's not a good reason to avoid homeschooling. Fear that you will be a hermit for example. My dd is the most sociable, outgoing person I've ever met. We just went out last night, and she plops herself down in the middle of another family, there was an empty spot on the bench (we were waiting for our table at the Carabbas restaurant for almost an hour!) and dd was just chatting to this family just happy as could be! She was disappointed when our table was called b/c it interrupted her chat! She's seven years old btw!

Another poster was saying that you won't have Art or PE if you homeschool, and she doesn't have Art in her schedule. But I think that really points out the cool thing about homeschooling, that hsing is what you make it. My son is not that much into art, so doesn't do that much art also, but my dd loves art, and spends half her day drawing, painting, doing sculpture, and doing other art projects. She's only 7 now, but in a few years I can sign her up for art classes also if she still wants them (there's an art center a few blocks from our house but you need to be a little older).

If you're into sports or PE you can sign up for homeschool sports. In my town they have homeschool tennis and soccer, and I live in a small town. Larger towns probably have more sports than that. By law, we as homeschoolers can also sign up for all the public school sports and actitivies as well including band and cheerleading. The current quarterbacks from FSU and U of F are former homeschoolers, Tim Tebow and Dean Whetherford, that both took advantage of homeschooling and public school football.

Give it a try. Join a homeschool group in your area as they have a lot more activities than any public or private school can offer most of the time. You can still enjoy proms, dances, drama clubs, music classes etc. We have all of this available thru the organization I am part of. The kids go on great trips, go rock climbing at a local center and enjoy every part of learning.

Go to the www.hslda.org and see what the requirements are in your area and also do a search to see if there are any organizations in your area to be a part of. My child meets more "public life" being homeschooled than I ever dreamed of having being in "public school" This socializing stuff everyone is throwing out here is not how it is anymore. If anything I think homeschool children have more hands on time and skills than "public" schools. Just because they are given that option and opportunity

GO FOR IT!!!!!!!
and finally be able to enjoy the learning process

Do you like your mom a lot?? cause u can't be homeschooled and hate your mom. and why don't you like school, if its cause of people great chance you'll like it. When you're homeschooled you have more oppertunitys to do more than in school, such as out of the home field trips, schools don't take more than 2 or 3. If you are good at most subjects and can motovate yourself to do you work try it out. When you are homeschooled you don't get a lot of art or PE, I have to do my own PE with running, I don't do art because I don't think its very important.
some other people are saying you can't do stuff like proms, but there are homeschool groups that do that sort of thing.

Look into it--Homeschooling can be great but not if it is only to escape school--It is an alternative way of learning adn living--It may be perfect for you or it may not be--The fact that your mother is op0en to it is great...just remember taht you are probably going to start high school soon --you're almost done with 8th grade--I remember that there are major differences between junior high and high school--people who acted so immature in junior high--yes--even in 8th grade--were super mature as soon as they got into high school--maybe because they were suddenly the freshmen and were trying to act older--who knows--but the things you like or don't like about in school will be very different once you go to high school--there are more activities, more requirements and different kinds of peer pressure and opportunities--so think about it-you may like the new environment...or you may hate it...

That said--I think homeschooling could be great--it's up to you ...

good Luck...

Yes absolutely I think you should homeschool. I have done public school and now I am homeschooled and I am in the 9th grade I have been very happy with it and I still have all my old friends. I have had the opportunity to learn what I wanted when I couldn't in public school and I go at my own pace. I love homeschool it is the coolest. There is nothing at school I miss I go to the football games and dances it doesn't stop me from socializing. You can do it I think you should.

It's up to you and your mum and why you hate it so much? The distance education people also need a good reason, such as a psychological reason or learning difficulties. I personally was allowed to do it due to panic attacks in class. Again, if it's something like bullying that makes you hate it and you can work alone and independently, then go for it! It's much easier and faster to work alone, you often find you have days and days of free time after plowing through work at home!
