I'm a pessimist. I've experienced depression for the first time the last few months. I'm taking medication now for it. But i still am depressed, i go through bouts where i'm depressed for about a week. Then i have a day where i'm super happy and hyper. Then i go back to the way i was. Please, i need outlook tips not medication. Do you have any tips on being optimistic and getting myself out of my deep negativeness that i get into?

It's wierd because i get these mood swings. Like at the beginning of the day i'm all happy and hyper, then by the end of the day, i'm in deep sadness. Then the sadness makes me not want to be social or funny. So people will call me and i'm all happy, then they'll call awhile later and i'm all withdrawn and quiet. What the hell? i'm so sick of these mood swings.

First of all, you are not depressed, you are bi-polar. If you are taking medication for depression you need to stop and get on the correct medication for being bi-polar (bi-polar means mood swings of great highs and low-lows) ---to change you attitude takes 30 days of daily training. Buy an audio CD (Anthony Robbins) and surround yourself with positive people. This will get you out of it.

It soundsl like you are bipolar. I am, and you described me. There is medication for this , and one of the most treatable mental illness there is, depending on what level you are on. (there are only 1 & 2 level). But you need to go to the doctor, a head doctor or counselor and get a diagnosis, as the medication for being bipolar is very effective in most cases. It may take about 3 months to really get your medication right, but once it is right you will know. I take Welburtrin and Neurontin. The Welbutrin is the antidepressant and the Neurontin is the mood stabilizer. It's been found many of seizure meds helps stabilize bipolars. So please go to your doctor and find out if you, because if it is left unchecked, sometime or somewhere, it will get out of control, ending in suicide or hospitlization.

For one you will find going to a therapist will help. The negative you are thinking is something you need to work on and they can help with that. You will need to change that negitive thinking into possiative thinking. So that means, when you think something neg. then you have to go back and turn what you just thought in a negative way, into a possitive thought. Now i am not going to tell you that this is going to be easy, cause it sure wasn't for me. As for your mood swings, that could be something completely different, and you should go and have that checked out why you are having these mood swings. So a therapist can help you with that too. There is no magic pills or wand, so you need to learn different ways of copeing, and you need to learn how to change that negative thinking into positive thinking. I would really strongly suggest that you seek professional help. But the chose is up to you, so if you really want to get out of the rute you are in then it is your chose how you are going to do that , and if you are going to seek the professional help, that i strongly remand. I wish you the very best with this, cause it is a long hard road, but you can do it.

After we broke up (I left him coz of the way he was) he went to a Psychiatrist & was diagnosed with Bi-Polar 2. He now attends a clinic, has the proper medcation for his illness & is moving on with his life & has found some happiness :)

I agree, rapid cycle bipolar... of course, no one wants pills. However... there is no alternative I know of... I've looked for years.
