I think that it's not respectable to believe after all that God has done for you. For example, Jesus taking your place on the cross so that you won't die in your sins. it's like a slap in the face.
God is God whether or not you believe Him to be. Right now God still loves you and every day that you wake up you have a brand new mercy and another chance to give your life to Christ and be saved from eternal damnation.

This is your choice, though not respectable, God still loves you and ss do I with the love love of Christ.

Because many people within society are religious.

I was asked a couple months ago what god do atheists believe in (a fellow Soldier had just found out that I am an Atheist-mainly because I was pissed that the Christmas tree lighting ceremony, singing of hymns, and praying were made manditory for my whole Battalion, whether we were Atheist, Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish, whatever). I told him 'none'. He asked who I worship. I told him 'noone'. He said, "Well, you MUST believe in some higher power. What do you call it?" I told him I don't believe in any higher power. He just couldn't understand the concept of not believing in god.

Many people have never even concidered the posibility that the church/temple/mosque/etc. might be wrong. If you were told your whole life that something was true and someone told you it was a lie, it would probably take quite a bit of getting used to the other opinion. I suppose that's how it is for most of society.

Well I can't speak fro everyone, but my guess is because they want you to be apart of Gods Kingdom.

Everyone should have respect for others that don't believe the same as they believe.

Respect goes both ways, a lot of Christians aren't respected by nonbelievers...

lets all learn to respect each other regardless of what we believe. AGREED ?

Because society is insane. Society can't live in life because of there beliefs. Ever see a picture of earth taken from space? There are no lines, countries etc. and you'll notice the earth is in heaven. Most people don't live in truth because of there beliefs. PS, even a belief that there is no god is just like the belief that there is, a belief. Just be true to life.

I really feel that, with no belief in God, we cannot believe in anything, including the respect of society.
Only when we believe in God, we will realize His divine lesson of selfless love and respect, that causes us to love people unconditionally, and the sign of mutual love and respect will become evident everywhere.
Usually people don't see anybody deserve their respect and love; therefore, they can do it only when they know that such behaviour is not for the deservedness of man, but for the pleasure of God.

i am a christian and i respect it. once i ask a person and they tell me that they do not believe in God and don't want to hear any more about it, i don't talk to them about it again unless they ask me questions, and a lot of the times they get curious and end up asking me questions and i always answer them as best as i can.

"Mainworry" up there just sumed it up. This is the attitude many of us atheists face when we publicly disclose our disbelief...or get "outed" somehow.

"You poor thing, chosing to live in ignorance and darkness. Come into the light. We'll be waiting for you." (Spoken in condescending, often pitying tones.)

Never mind that to us, they are the ones living in the Dark Ages.

I respect that you that you don't believe in God. But I'm sad that you don't. You're missing out.

People like to feel comfortable with the fact that someone is watching and taking care of them. You are truly free and that scares them.

Key word is "RESPECT". People don't RESPECT anything that they can't control.
