God Does not expect us to be Holy like his son.God expects us to sin. God created the ten comandments so that when we mere mortals do sin we will feel guilt(wich is the holy spirite talking to us) & we will call apon His greatness to forgive us.I used to be afraid of God untill I heard this factoid. Now I understand.

Ok, Alot of you have misunderstood what I a'm saying. What I meant was, now that I no longer fear God, Iam free to embrase him & understand how much He has sacrificed for us mortals & how much love he has for us NO MATTER WHAT or WHO WE ARE.

God does expect us to be conformed to the image of His Son - but it is a long process. Yes, initially as Christians, He does not expect us to attain to that yet.
Romans 8:29 "Because those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the Firstborn among many brothers" Christ was the Firstborn, and there are many to follow.
It is true though that God knows we have sin (the sinful nature in us) and would commit sins at times in our lives. Because of Satan, and Adam+Eve's fall, sin came into man. God knows this and can make use of this for man to turn to God.
The ten commandments were there to somewhat keep the old testament believers from sinning further. On another side, the ten commandments also tells us about the nature of God. Just like laws reflect the lawgivers.

First, like so many others you are reading the Ten Commandments with a 21st. Century mentality as if they were written in English and for people who think the way we do. This is NOT to say that the Ten Commandments are not applicable today, only that we fail to understand how they were intended. Firstly, the Ten Commandments originally were known as "The Decalogue," or The Ten Words. These 'Ten Words' were inscribed in God's Holy Language (rather than contemporary English) and were divided into the 'do' and the 'do not' lists. Originally the Ten Commandments were ten single words written in a simpler language that conveyed a meaning nearly impossible to translate into a single English word. For example, 'thou shall not kill...' A more correct translation for this Commandment into English would be: "No-murder," if a single word existed in English that could express this meaning. None-the-less, in our own day and age 'murder' is still unacceptable while 'killing' is sometimes unavoidable and can even be very necessary. Adultery, thievery, lying and covetous conduction all defy acceptable moral norms and fall into the 'do not' category. What is so surprising about this? The first Five Commandments are addressed to a People who accepted a Covenant with God and merely point out the 'Rules of Conduct.' Again, what is so surprising about this? As an atheist you must consider yourself an urbane and sophisticated person much too intelligent to believe in God. The Ten Commandments were intended for a simplier People so why are you even bothering us simple-folk on the Religious and Spirituality forum of Yahoo Questions and Answers??? Are you perhaps not only an atheist but also a... Troll? Inquiring minds want to know! H

How doe's one keep the Ten Commandments? Can't, so give up already, and die! And yet, that is the secret! The Bible is the christian sword by which we run ourselves throu. I keep jabben, but the old man keeps wigglen and won't give it up. Why is that? Its analogous to a fellow who had to bob the tail on his Doberman, but he didn't want to hurt the dog, so he decided to cut the tail off one inch at a time. Likewise with us; "just one more sin, then I quit". So we suffer instead of crucifying the flesh. Now that you know the secret to conquering sin, when the pastor gets up to bring the message, I expect all of you to commit hari-kari, and if any of ya are still wigglen on the way out, I will know you decided to cut your sin only one inch.

What?!? You're no longer afraid of God? Then you're no longer a Christian. Fear, guilt and shame are all good natural Christian emotions and you should spend every waking hour with these being felt in order to get to heaven.

Or perhaps Moses made it up in order to keep the people in line. He wasn't the first political leader to invoke the word of God, and he certainly wasn't the last.

I think it is rather amusing when people say they follow the ten commandments everyday. It is basic innate morals and ethics. People shouldn't really need guidelines on something so mundane unless they are somewhat mentally retarded.

God didn't write the commandments, Moses did. They served their purpose well but unlike the people he deceived when he wrote them, we should not be superstitious about their origin

The 10 commandments are actually not that hard to keep. Unless you like stealing, killing and desiring of your neighbor's wife. Most of his laws are actually lenient. stupid!
