I've heard of the "God Spot" or "God Module," a region of the brain related to religious experiences, but I've also heard that this study was unreliable. Does anyone have information on this subject? If it is real, what does it mean to you?

I read about the "God gene" theory.

It's interesting, and it does reflect what I already know about brain function. It doesn't, however, really address the role that "nurture" plays. Genetic predisposition is one thing, but our experiences also affect our brain and how our belief systems develop. It would be reasonable to hypothesize that there is a particular area of the brain that processes religious experience and thought, I would have to study it a lot more to be more definite about it. Neat question, thanks :-)

Every person has 2 brains. One which we use and small and the other big like a desert and quite big. That brain needs to be charged by meditation and concentration.More we do that, the power to retain and think of things that are good, welfare related and matters beyond self automatically get activated. This may be called spiritual, religious, common good and all these will make the man confident and full of will power and that will be a new driver to sail you on the road where we all travel. This needs practice and faith matched by confidence to do , think, meditate, and reach the goal of entry into a world of ultimatewhich is more refreshing, satisfying

Have you ever written a line listing examples and ended the sentence with "etc." That is what spirituality is. There are questions and emotions that can be easily answered or clearly defined. Spirituality allows individuals to answer the unanswerable. "How come bad things keep happening to me? It's God's will." Sound familiar. "Why are we here? Only God knows." "I feel so close to God."

There is no God Spot. Just a longing and a desire for an all encompassing answer to the big impossible to answer questions in life.

i think that people are all spiritual, but in there own ways, some believe in god, some believe in a higher power, but wont say that its god, some worship the devil as there higher power, and then here are the select few that believe in god, and actually believe that they do get help with their lives from him, and that there are spiritual beings around them at all times, watching over them... so i dont know if theres a spot in the brain so to speak, but im pretty sure there is a spot in the soul

Think of every civilisation in history and their culture. It has always included deities. There is no existing population that doesn't have a belief in higher powers as part of their culture. Hence a God Spot in our brains appears to be highly credible. It is a survival instinct as it gives us a reason to live.

Spirituality, like many things, is on a basic level merely a concept. If we are not taught that the concept exists, we could easily go our entire lives with no knowledge of it. In other words, it is not innate.

It's just theory or feeling that a void is in everyone which can only be filled by God.

I agree.

This void is a passing from eternal death unto eternal life. Call it blessed assurance.

Otherwise you are spiritually dead.

Its a spiritual need that creates happiness and fulfillment.

It's not a desire but a need. Everyone needs spirituality.

I think its proof that we where created by a God.

if there really is a God spot in the brain, it makes sense. God created us, so that might be where we "plug in" to Him.

pretty cool idea.

have a nice day!
