I am in the process of redecorating my family room. I've painted my walls a shade of taupe/brown/green (actually called "camouflage)." My baseboards and door are dark brown but my crown molding is white (the same color as the ceiling). Is it okay for the baseboards and crown molding to be different? I can't quite decide if I like it or not.

It's OK but, it is up to you.

There are no "shoulds" in decorating. Do what you like. Are you in your own home? if so, I would think it would be easier to do the baseboard than to do the crown molding. Or, maybe the crown molding isn't needed at all. If you're ready to paint the room then just remove the crown molding and plug the holes and paint the room and ceiling one color.

Yes it is ok. I wouldn't paint the crown moulding unless you really want everyone's eye to go to the ceiling when they enter the room. It will make the entire space look different, like a box more or less. It could be you may like it but it's a lot of work to do and then undo if you hate it. I'd leave it to blend with the ceiling.

Give it a few days to see if you like it. If not, then paint it. You're opinion is the only one that really matters as you have to live with it. I would say paint it the same color as the crown molding, but that's just my opinion.

It is OK, as a matter of fact, I have seen that done many times. The crown molding seems to blend with the ceiling.

Happy Decorating!

no, its not okay, this makes things unbalanced any dark colour makes a room look smaller.baseboards and mouldings should stay white(same colour) door can stay brown room will look more balanced and bigger.
