I currently have... Yahoo! Messenger version 3.0 beta 1... I have an apple macbook.. do i need to update..adn where do i go to get that??

Check the menus in each program. Usually on the Help menu is an option to "Check for updates." You could also go to the website itself and check for updates on there. For example, I have Windows XP. I get my updates from the Windows Update site.

You have the current version of Yahoo! Messenger for Mac. I know, it's not fully featured, yet. Yahoo is very slow about it's Mac development. If you'd like to try something else, there's always Adium X, which allows you to connect to various different types of IM services all at once, such as AIM, Yahoo, MSN and Jabber. There's others, as well. If you wish to use your iSight camera to video chat with PC users, you can use iChat with an AIM screen name, but the user on the PC end must be using AIM 5.9, not the new AIM 6 "Triton". You can also use Skype. There's a few other applications for Mac that allow you to video chat with PC users, just Google it.

They are on version 8, but this is for windows. You can check out the messenger website, just access it from yahoo's main site.
