Has anyone had any experience in calling/dealing with child protective services in california.. southern california (orange county) to be exact. If you read my most recent question it would become clear why I need this info. I need to know if a call can be placed anonymously... I have heard stories of child protective services releasing information (such as who reported the incident) so I am a bit reluctant to call.

Also, do they show up unexpected? The person I need to report (my sister in law) had dealt with them before after my brother was arrested for domestic abuse but they always let her know what time they would show up and so she always had time to go pick up my niece at my mom's house and make her apartment look as if my niece had been there the whole time.

It is against the law to release the name of a reporter. You can make a anonymous call. I am a previous child protective services worker. Sometime intake will try and get a number from you in case they need to get more information. I repeat it is against the law to tell the accused who reported them. The only way the reporter name can be revealed is if the accused feels that the report was made maliciously..they can then go to court and plea for the judge to have the name of the reporter revealed. The rarely happens and would only be possible if all the findings are false and it was just done to hurt someone.

In my experience, under these circumstances; CPS goes to the school, pulls the child/children from their class and speaks to them in private. Then they go to the home and speak to the parent(s). All of this, is unannounced prior to the visits. If there is 'anything' suspicious found or heard from the child, they will take the child into protective custody. Usually they are taken to an institution for other children that are removed from their homes accordingly. If there are drugs or suspicious items found in the home; the parents are arrested and incarcerated until their arraignment, in court. If they are found guilty of anything, they are sentenced according to the crime and circumstances. The child is then placed with, either a responsible family member or placed in a foster home. It is a very sad and unfortunate set of events. For I believe the child should not be removed from their home unless their very life is in danger. The parents could have intervention with supervision and still keep the family intact. The courts are there to do the irreparable damage to the family but, they are not there to see the suffering and anguish that is caused by severing the family, as well. I have experienced many of these situations and I am just heartsick, every time. There 'is' another way.

they cannot say who called and you can report it anonymously. they are supposed to just show up although, several workers will call first, you need to tell them on the phone when you call what has happened in the past when reports have been made. Tell them you need them to show up unannounced. They can and they will. Otherwise get the name of the worker from your family and make a anonymous call to them about just showing up unannounced.

Why are you calling child protective services? Take care of your niece yourself, love her, adore her, spoil her, show what it means to have a loving and caring parent...ask your sister for custody. If you can't take her, and your mother can't care for her, then the child may end up in the hands of child protective services, and ultimately a foster family. Is that what you want for your niece?

no they do not release the name of the person who makes the report.and if you know that she is going to scramble to make it look like your niece has been there the whole time you can give them that information.and hopefully they won't call before they show up.
