it can be both. but still cheaper than oz. look for shops with the hong kong tourist assn. stickers on them and you are garanteed good value. if they dont have stickers you will get items a bit cheaper and you can barter - all good fun. but just be aware of the things you have bought. always check your bag before you leave the shop to make sure you have got what you wanted. they sometimes try and swap what you want with something cheaper.
remember, its all a game to them - and they always win even if you think you have won

it's both. if you shop the lanes on the island or some of the night markets, it's cheap. if you hit the glitzy strips it's as expensive as anywhere. get a good shopping in HK book to find the best bargains.

Both. If you go to a tourist attraction such as Tsim Sha Tsui, then it is expensive. Try going to places such as Mongkok ladies market, or Sham Shui Po, it is alot better.

it totally depends on what you buy, but its basically cheap, compared to what we have in the US.

always bargain, whatever price they offer, you counter-offer about 75% of it.
