Texas grew by 270,000 in five years, and an estimated 70 percent of the 26,000 births at Houston and Dallas public hospitals in 2005 were to mothers who are undocumented immigrants. Unreimbursed care cost the Harris County Hospital District $97 million in 2005.
"If we do nothing, in 10 years, just based on the current birth rate, we're going to have 50 million (illegal immigrants and their children) in the United States. Our country will change totally. Our culture will be gone," said state Rep. Leo Berman, R-Tyler. "We've been invaded without firing a shot." http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4440332.html

They get free medical care here in Florida. I know that for a fact because one near by county is in debt because of all of them using the local county health department there.

There is a major hospital close to here. The biggest and best hospital for 5 hours.. they had to close off about 20% of their hospital ..they are only filling to 80% capacity because last year, 50% of the people that came there for healthcare could not pay.. Most of that is illegals that refuse to pay..therefore the hospital has said that they will probably shut the doors before 2007 is up.. (they don't have the funding to keep it open)..it employees several thousand people and has almost that many rooms...It's bad when US citizens can't pay the bill and hospitals have to stop treating patients all together but by the time you add the FREE healthcare that illegals get..it's ridiculous..if we want decent healthcare we have to drive 5 hours to get it. Who can afford to do that ..who should have to..When this hospital finally closes, thousands of people will be without work, and benefits..just because the illegals decide they want to STEAL med services.. I was inpatient last month and do you know I had a bill in the mail for my cost (after insurance) before I even got home. After 30 days I start getting harassed for payment...y should they come to OUR country and take our decent healthcare from us...pretty soon their won't be any hospitals open--they will all have to close.

heh-heh...

No, the culture won't be gone. It will be different. And it would be different even if there wasn't a single Latino living in the United States.

The culture will change because of gay rights, because of the evolving role of women in society. The culture will change because of the Internet, because of mass media and instant news coverage. The culture will change because of global and international influences that have never been so powerful or immediate as they are today. The culture will change because of technological advancements in medicine, travel, engineering, security, physics, biochemistry and other areas. The culture will change because of the deepening divides between classes, because of monetary policies...because of so... very... many... things.

Yes, the culture will change because of the latino influence, and it won't just change for the larger culture, it will change for Latinos as well. Their culture will change.

Death and taxes. Aside from that, everything will change, and that is the natural process. It's been going on since the dawn of humankind, and it will continue.

"you reside interior the wealthiest usa in the international, spend a mind-blowing volume on units, outsized properties and supply huge quantities of money to "celebrities" who have not have been given any own fee or worth. you apart from could have a wide-unfold religious ethos that nominally subscribes to "loving your neighbour as your self". I concern that some human beings on your usa could be satisfied to work out ladies provide start unattended interior the line with the aid of fact the blood runs down the gutter. Is that the diversity of international you desire to strengthen your little ones in? possibly in case you have an more suitable healthcare device such questions does no longer upward push up." I fail to work out how that makes any difference. U.S. 'has'. Illegals 'desire'. as a result it somewhat is in basic terms genuine that illegals 'get'? possibly if illegals and different socialist based societies did no longer have that experience of entitlement, that they had be waiting to purchase their own over sized properties and units. it somewhat is truly none of absolutely everyone's employer, who owns what, who spends how lots or what they spend it on. only with the aid of fact somebody worked no longer common for OR inherited wealth does not make absolutely everyone else entitled to a pair great advantages of it.

I agree this is a growing problem. However, it's hardly the disaster as stated. The amount generally agreed that is being spent on undocumented immigrants is less than 1% of the national Medicaid/Medicare budget.

A study released last month [this report dated 11/2005] by the University of California and the Mexican government's National Population Council found that fewer than 10% of recent Mexican immigrants had received care in a hospital emergency department in the last year. According to the Times, the study's findings might "reverse the long-held thought" that undocumented immigrants are "draining the U.S. health care system and are bringing with them infectious diseases."

I don't know about invasion, it is an overstatement. I know this, though. I am a naturalized American who came to this country legally many years ago. But I can not afford real medical help. Neither could I afford to buy any medicine. I pray that God would keep me healthy as long as possible.

I do not think that our culture will be be gone. But major influx of any ethnic group definitely will have certain influence.

Well duh. Why do you think Americans are getting so up in arms. The illegal Mexican invaders have trashed their own beautiful country and in 20 more years ours will be a garbage dump like theirs also. Somebody has to pay for all of this stuff and it sure isn't going to be these criminals.

Just an added FYI for people who think that this is not a problem. In 2005, 19 hospitals and clinics in Southern CA had to file bankruptcy and close their doors because of the massive debt acquired in treating illegal aliens. I think that is a reason to not only be concerned but to put a stop to it.

I wonder how many of our citizens have died in an emergency because the nearest hospital to them has closed due to non paying illegals.
Yes,we are being invaded and it will only get worse unless something is done.

Maybe its time we look at the big picture...I can see no reason why humans ..no matter their origin should not have access to medical care ..be it free ..or not... if your child was in mexico ..or another country ..about to have a baby..would you want her to have proper medical care...
As for the cost...well take a good look at what an average CEO earns in one year..those salaries could off set the cost of not just the mexican immigrants , but americans as well..and there are many other areas with in our economic system that have the potential for offsetting costs incurred by the medical profession
as they help the less fortunate.
As for the potential for population increases through illegal immigration...and the loss of our culture....this is absurd!.....People tend to keep customs and traditions through time no matter the circumstances..in fact ..theses are the things that bind families and groups together..people fight and die for their freedom..hence their cultural values..
In essence, it is time we look at the world with a global attitude. IWhen other peoples of the world suffer, it relects on the more affluent..We should treat the world and its people in a global sense and approach these issues with a multitude of leaders and solutions.
