The spiritual comfort you describe manifests itself as a feeling of connectedness and wonder.
I experience connectedness through my family, and wonder through studying the amazing world around me.

Enjoying the world around you. I don't need the though of a deity to fill any void. What do you like to do. What do you want to learn about. Honestly, the most "spiritual" thing I do is scuba dive. To be in the water, exploring a "different" world is very uplifting.
I also find it through my children. Watching them grow, learn, hit milestones in development. Just watching them is very uplifting as well.
I also hunt. Sitting in a deer stand, at 5:30 in the morning, it is fairly cold, and it just you and nature(and yes, a 30-06 or something). It is very peaceful.
I do have one religious ritual I perform every Sat. in the fall. I attend the church of my beloved Longhorns. I don't know about uplifting, or even relaxing, but all is well when they are on my TV.

We have no void to fill. Our souls are full and pure (matching our superior intelligence and good looks). If there is is a God, atheists are the best of his creation; and if there is a heaven, atheists will be allowed to the front of the line.
Personally, I'll be at St. Peter's Topless Bar & Casino partying with America's Founding Fathers and a few dozen angel-babes.
Conservative Christians will be at the laundromat washing God's underwear.

I don't believe that there is some higher spiritual realm that is separate from human beings. I feel connected to my friends and family, even my dog, because of the love that we have for each other. I don't feel as though there is a void in my life that needs to be filled with something else. Perhaps you should look into a philosophy or faith that does not require belief in a deity, such as some forms of Buddhism, Jainism, or even secular Humanism.

Loving my family, my friends, my co-workers, sticking up for the little guy, helping the poor, getting involved in community events, reading books, volunteering, mentoring, recycling all of this fills my "void" I'm not stuck in a church getting my head filled with lies, I am actually impacting society, in a positive way.

They have their own definition of 'spiritual': any forms of belief, learning, enjoyment of intellectuality, worship of ancestors and anything relating to the use of human brain!
Perhaps, they will accept new understanding when they truly admire the greatness of the Messengers of God.

Escargot and cashews transport me to waves of joy beyond reason, especially when washed down with German Hochs in Spatlese or better.

Do as I did when I was an atheist...tell yourself there is no void and do alot of drugs.
I think a better option is to seek G-d without religion.

I don't need lies and faery tales (like the promise of an everlasting joy in heaven) to feel comfort. I seek truth, and I have it. One does not need an imaginary being to feel fulfilled in life, spiritually or otherwise.
