Is their a way to set the camera settings on cannon 7.1 mega pixel digital camera to shoot pictures without lighting up the room.

okay well is their a way to minimize the flash, so that i can take pictures kinda like the lighting in the room

You should be able to shut off the flash. You might not be able to do this in the full AUTO mode, but try "P," if you have it. If not, use the "M" setting. You may have to look a few things up in your book to learn about the "M" mode if you are not familiar with setting things by yourself. Then you can push the multiswitch at the top or on the side by the lightning bolt icon and you will see the flash icon with a slash through it. This means the flash is off. Be ready to hold VERY still, though!

It sounds like what you're trying to do is achieve a better balance between highlights, midtones and shadows. If that's the case, don't use flash. You might need to use a tripod or other device to steady the camera though because depending on the environment, there may not be enough light to shoot handheld.

shadow is dark, dark is the absence of light, without light, the camera will automatically use flash, flash will show light and dark will leave. Its impossible

Your question is vague, it SOUNDS like your trying to over ride the flash? Need more info on what your trying to do, and exactly what your taking photos of, and what obsticle your trying to overcome.
