Antidepressants which are supposed to help with anxiety never helped me, like Zoloft. The only medication that helped me with the paranoia/panic attacks/anxiety was Ativan (Lorazepam) It's a pretty strong sedative. I take Lexapro for the depression. There's a whole bunch of benzodiazepines, like Ativan and Xanax which help with serious panic attacks and anxiety. As far as I know, they are all pretty much addictive and you have to be careful if you're taking them. If you haven't tried any yet, talk to your doctor about them. I was becoming housebound because of my paranoia and panic attacks and the Ativan has really helped me. I hid in my apartment for 3 months and now I'm much more comfortable going out and I can actually talk to people again.
Sorry that my advice is just to try different kinds of meds but it's the only thing that worked for me.

I sometimes get that aswell! I can be with people I know well and I'm fine but as soon as I'm with strangers I panic! I've googled it and found something called Social Anxiety Disorder! I went to the doctors and they said if you feel that you will be put in a situation that you dont like then take some calms the night before and this will ease the anxiety! Or do what I do at parties or out with strangers is get to know them because chances are that they feel nervous around you too! Dont worry about it and hope you are okay! <3

I've been there too. See a doctor. If you're not happy with what your current doctor is doing, find a different one even a psychiatrist. My problems with social anxiety relate to how I'm doing overall with my bipolar and depression. If I'm not well overall my anxiety is REALLY bad. I also suggest a therapist. Mine has helped me a lot with the anxiety. You may need an anti-anxiety med to help you get control of the anxiety before something like paxil or zoloft will help. Oh, and those two meds take around a month to take full effect (assuming you were on the right dosage in the first place). Good LUCK!

The therapy you had may not have been the therapy you need. Try again. You need to learn how to relax. It has been proven that people with anxiety problems can benefit greatly from learning how to relax. This is not an easy process. It's not something that you can be prescribed. You have to first be shown a technique, and then you have to practice it until you have mastered it.
I've been there, and couldn't even guess how many times I went to the emergency room with a panic attack. Medication may help in the short term, but relaxation skill will help for the long term
Good Luck

I went through the very same thing. Ask your doctor for Rivotril, you should feel more calmness and in control. take the prescription faithfully as long or until you start to feel more at ease. Don't stay in the house, get out and exercise, try swimming, running, walking. You should continue working or school. Keep in the real world, you'll see in the long term this anxiety will decrease, don't let it control you.Control of your life is in your hands. Also, try meditation and prayer. Ask a higher power for help, it will arrive, help in the form of more confidence and a calmness, I assure you it will come. You have reached rock bottom as I see it now so there is only one way, and it's up to feeling better. To repeat keep your mind and body active, and take your medication, (try Rivotril).

If you find the answer, please msg it to me, because I am feeling the same right. I am having an attack, but trying to hang in there! Don't want to end up in the ER again....
It's such an awful feeling. What kind of threapy have you tried? Sometimes if you only see one person and they aren't right, it's not going to help. Finding the reason to WHY you get these feelings is the first step. Paxil did nothing for me either. But Xanax helps a little. If you have your mail set up, you should send me one and we can chat.

Sounds like you have GAD. I have the same issue, very bad. I went on Lexapro and it works wonders, it targets the GAD better than others. I understand the withdrawal symptoms, but I just got off of it and did not have too many...was a lot better than others. Iwas on it for over a yr. They also scribed klonipin, which helped imensly.
