I've been put on antidepressants for my ADD (don't know how that works, but oh well) and my doctor didn't have a lot of time to explain the drug for me because he had a patient waiting. In other words, I'm completely in the dark about what I'm taking every day. My mom sets the pill out for me, and I really don't want to ask to see the bottle because my mom might freak out. (I've been really down in the dumps lately, and my whole family knows my suicide method of choice would be by medication overdose... I don't want them to go crazy, you know how parents are. x_x Always assuming crazy things.)
It's an orange pill, about the size of a dime or so. You're supposed to take it daily, until it builds up in your system. Can somebody identify it for me? I want to be able to research the side effects and so on. =/

Just found the medicine bottle behind the roll of paper towels in our kitchen. (Bah, what a place to hide it.)
Turns out I'm taking Wellbutrin, something that's known to cause seizures and heart failure, AND increase suicidal thoughts. Wonderful, just wonderful.
Thanks for the answers.

This site has a picture database, just in case the first answer doesn't work out. The drug manufacturer should have a web site too.

And here is the google search for you.

KOKO, Wellbutrin is an old medication around for several years now. It is also the same drug doctors prescribe for people who want to quit smoking. it works, I know because I take it. Since I had cancer, my oncologist wanted to put me on a new antidepressant. I hated it and stop taking it. I asked my own doctor if I could continue with the Wellburtin instead and he allowed. I have never had thoughts of suicide or anything. Everyone is different, don't get me wrong, and everyone can have different side effects. If you feel any of these, you must speak to your parents. You have a very inconsiderate doctor if he won't even take the time to explain this drug to you. Your pharmacist will certainly explain this to you. Pharmacists are the best ones to give you the right advice. Call them, tell your concern and then see if you can get a better doctor.

Any person (even a 7 year old child) should know the name of the medication they are taking. There is nothing wrong with asking your mother for the name. You absolutely should know the side effects and interactions. JUST ASK!
Addendum:
OK - seems that you know you are taking Wellbutrin. It does not cause heart failure. It does have a 0.4% chance of seizures but usually in interactions with another agent that can induce a seizure. Wellbutrin has actually never been shown to inc suicidal thoughts - it was lumped together with other antidepressants (like Paxil and Zoloft that can cause increase in thoughts not suicide attempts).
Sounds like you have a problem communicating and trusting your family and your dr - TALK to them.

Hi Koko
I hope you are feeling OK.
I think you are being neglected by your mother and doctor.
Personally, I think ADD is bs.
Do YOU think taking the pill helps ?
You are a young person with hormones raging on one side, and your mother's, your relatives, and societies limits to observe on the other.
Its called growing up.
No longer a child, yet not an adult.
The easy way to appease them is to comply with their wishes, like a good child, but then not showing any initiative by being afraid to get sh*it on makes you depressed for being repressed and sometimes ask to do more than your capable of.
You try to express yourself, they pull in the rains. They dull your spirit, you loose interest.
Drugging you is the easy way out.
I know how you feel because I remember how I was treated at this age.
The reason for feeling depressed can also be nutritionally induced.
Try to learn to eat foods that are good for you and which keep your mind clear.
Call your doctor and ask him what the hell is the name of the chemical straight jacket / pills.
You have a right to know what you are expected to ingest.
