Chances are he's using it to calm the constant mind chatter and probably to calm himself down.
People with ADD or ADHD will often use a drug, or alcohol, because it eases up your almost constantly racing mind. But, they shortly find out their addicted to it.
While I've never resorted to drugs, I can tell you about what it can feel like to have ADD. You have many thoughts all at once. Driving, for instance, I'm thinking about where I'm going, what I'll do when I get there, but I'm also thinking about what I'm going to do tomorrow, what will I feed my son when he gets home, and about 40 other thoughts at one time. It was like this until I started medication for ADD.
Before they ever had ADD medication though, I learned to ease the constant mind chatter through meditation. Before that I had difficulty getting to sleep. It would normally take about 1-2 hours of just laying there before I drifted off.
ADD/ADHD can be terribly overwhelming to some people and that's why they reside to drugs to calm things down. My late husband,, whom was also ADHD, unfortunately was a victim to alcohol addiction, but it seemed to be the only time he could focus.

I am a substance abuse counselor of 8 years and a recovering addict of 20 years. The first question, the facts about pot: it IS addictiive. How one can determine if they are addicted is by trying to stop. When one withdraws from the substance , various symptoms will be noted. Insomnia, apathy, irritablity. Some tremulousness as well is an indicator. Next question about damage. Of course there's the genetic damage. Then there's the anhedonia, inability to experience pleasure. Memory loss which is irrepairable. No, it's not O.K. to smoke pot, even if it isn't everyday. Anymore than it's O.K. to self medicate with any other addictive substance. I also teach D.U.I. school. So about smoking and driving, The legal consequences are exactly the same. However, when the court orders random urinalysis, pot could tale as long as 30-45 days to be out of the urine.

People who are not ADHD are not qualified to answer this question.
The answer is simple. ADHD people of the past who were not on drugs turned out to be the greatest artists, discoverers, scientists, inventors and musicians.
The appeal to the pot every day is to slow down to a retarded world. Remember this quote, "I'm okay, you are just ADHD deficient."
This person needs to change the definition of ADHD to quick smart skills.
They can discover their talent or niche so that pot doesn't waist his/her youth away.
ADHD Comedian Jim Carrey would say "Looo-oo-ooo-ooooo SER!"-
and that's how I feel about ADHD people who are convinced that there is something wrong with them when they existed since the beginning of time and were accepted without medication since the beginning of time.
He/she needs to put his/her foot down and say no more mediocrity and not change a hair on their head.
By smoking pot every day, they make less of themselves in order to try and experience some kind of normalcy that doesn't exist for anyone.
What is normal? The truth is that It really doesn't exist.
Normal is a made up illusion creating a delusion for the masses to oppress the thinkers and creators.
Normal is determination by whatever the decade or century tells everyone who serves the hierarchy defined by politicians and pharmaceuticals to keep the billions of dollars coming while the rest serve the system as victims.
That way the so called normal people can feel good about themselves when they keep the ADHD medicated. They can say, "Oh, that person has ADHD and can't amount to much, so they need medication and after that still can't amount to much because of the side affect. They have a disease."
My opinion? Quit the freakin' pot and pick something in life that enhances your ADHD. Tell other people to take a flying leap who can't handle the ADHD because they will always have so called normal mediocre lives.
Boring.
This ADHD person can keep doing the pot and risk being just like every body else wants him/her to be. Normal and a loser. Wee, what fun...
Yawn...
Or, take the bull by the horns and read about ADHD people who have succeeded in life without medication or drugs and be inspired to become whatever they dream they can become. Not what society tells them to be.
Now, that's exciting. One more interesting person to lead the sheeple.

For the same reason that it appeals to ANY teen to the point that he would smoke it day after day. I doubt his being ADHD has much to do with it at all - he just likes the feeling.

Dr. Tom O'Connell has done extensive research on this. His conclusion is that most regular drug use of any sort (pot included) is really self-medication.
He has surveyed thousands of pot users and found various common denominators in their history -- all of which add up to the idea that these people are probably experiencing anxiety, tension, nervousness, and similar psychological symptoms. Marijuana relieves those symptoms quite effectively. Furthermore, it is extremely safe as drugs go.
It is worth noting that Dr. O'Connell believes that regular alcohol use, regular tobacco use, regular use of Valium, etc. are done for the same reasons. Of all these drugs, marijuana should be consider the safest choice overall.
Historically speaking the biggest single cause of drug epidemics among US children is anti-drug campaigns. You can find numerous examples in the Consumers Union Report on Licit and Illicit Drugs at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/cu/cumenu.htm

Why would it appeal to anybody. It's a whole new perspective (literally), the chemical balance of your brain is changed, everything you experience is different, changed. 'A change is as good as a rest' the old saying goes, who wouldn't want to take a holiday everyday? Sadly there is a high price and a lot of people don't cope as well as say the 90% of people that don't have much problem w. alcohol. He might still grow out of it after having kids.

Why WOULDN'T he want to do it EVERY day?
It's teenaged rebellion, good times, hanging out with friends and the ultimate relaxation.
In order to get him NOT to do it is point out the negative aspects. IE drug tests, getting fat, the fact if something bad is mixed in with the weed it could poison him and the people it attracts are less than savory.
