Make some colored frosting. Put it into a plastic Zip-Loc bag and cut a very small hole in one corner. Drizzle the frosting over the top. I like to do several parallel lines, turn the cake 180 degrees and do intersecting parallel lines. VERY easy!

I don't have any decorating tools either. I've melted chocolate (the sweetened and ready to eat kind), added a little butter or milk to improve the consistency, and then poured it over the cake. It was a yellow cake with a fresh raspberry filling. The chocolate puddled on top and drizzled down the sides. I garnished with a few raspberries on top. Looked great - tasted fabulous!
You can also shake some powdered (confectionary) sugar through a strainer over the cake.
Have fun!

1)There is a tube frosting that you can buy at the store that is premixed and colored. You need to buy a nozzle for them. Easy to use for petals, rbbons, writing, etc.
2) Make your own. Powdered sugar, a bit of milk or water and you have white frostiong. Add chocolate for color, or food coloring. If no tools, use a paper sheet. Fold in half and then quarters and then 1/8s. Open it to a funnel shape and cut the tip off. Fill with frosting and roll the large opening to seal and push the frosting. Write or decorate. It you have a pastry funnel, this is easier.
3) Drizzle frosting. Frost cake with chocolate, make powder sugar and water glaze but mixing until syrupy. Drizzle ovwe cake to make a design. It is like a crispy creme glaze.

Bake and frost your cake (plain and simple is fine). Find an old greeting card with a picture you like, and cut the pic out like a paper-doll. Place it on top of the cake. You can also decorate with candy such as Skittles, m&m's, kisses, what ever matches the cake. My favorite on a bunt cake is to place a fresh rose, or other flower in the center hole. P.S. I usually just pick a flower out of my yard-or the neighbor's-tee hee.

Instead of using a fancy pastry bag, you could just cut the corner off a Ziploc bag and put your frosting in there. Then squirt it onto the cake in a decorative pattern!
You could also use sprinkles, pre-made frosting, little figurines, chocolate shavings (for a light-colored or chocolate cake), powdered sugar (for a darker cake), or candied fruit peel! If you're using powdered sugar, you could sprinkle it through some lace (or even a doilie) for a neat design.
Best of luck!

Get premade frosting, put it in a plastic bag, cut off the corner of the bag and you have just made yourself a decorating tool with which to create designs or write something with frosting.

You can buy small tubes of decorating icing for the cake. When my kids were young we used things like chocolate chips and M&Ms to decorate.

On my husbands birthday a few weeks ago, I had no food coloring so I took mini marshmallows and cherry chips and put them all over it, I thought it was silly to put the marshmallows on it, but it turned out pretty good. You can always make your own frosting for a little touch of different. Its quick and easy.

Buy Ready to roll fondant icing. If you have cookie cutters in flower shapes and leaves shapes use them now. Make some butter icing and spread on your cake and take small amount of fondant icing and cut some flowers and leaves. kneed remain fondant with your desire coloring and covered it on your cake which is spread by icing already. and decorate with those flowers and leaves which you already made by cutters.
