Get a spring mattress. The higher the coil count the better for support. A full size should have at least 750 coil count. A queen should be at least 900 coils and a king about 1200. Go to a furniture store or a mattress store such as Sleepys or Mattress Giant and lay down on them. Most of the mattress stores allow you to negotiate on the price. The prices can range into the thousands. You can get a good one for under $1000. A hard mattress does not indicate support. All it means is the materials used on the top are firm foam and not plush. It's what's on the inside that counts, coils, coils coils! Also ask about the box spring. It should also have a support system not just a wooden box made of 2X4's. Also ask about flame retardant and warranties. Most have a 20 year warranty. Warranties are VOID if the mattress get stained. So, buy a mattress cover.

Sam's carries them now and the prices are really good. That's where I'd check first. I'd buy a pillow top not air.
