So I fell for my best friend. And she fell for me (I of course didn't find that out until some time later). But, she was seeing someone else at the time. Last fall, he moved away, but they tried to keep a long-distance relationship. Now, I tried my hardest, but with him gone it became increasingly difficult to control my feelings. We became closer, and then one day we kissed (my fault, but she did kiss me back). Long story short, they broke up, and then got back together a little while later. That was September-ish. Now this last month they broke up again, and things between them are rocky.

She is way sad, which makes me wonder if she's so sad she'll want to get back together again, leaving me in the dust (again). Should I wait to see if she'll get over him? How long should I wait? If she does get over him, how can I explain to her that it's O.K. to get together with her best friend (she's the kind of girl to worry about that). I think I'm starting to go crazy.

You're in a tough spot. Either way, you could lose your best friend. If she keeps going back and forth with her ex, it may hurt you and be too much for you to handle. You may not want to wait and may lose her that way. If you do date and it doesn't work out, you may lose her, anyway. I know you may think that I sound selfish, but you need to watch out for your own heart right now. Put some distance between you and her and see if it's worth the risk. Unless she's sure that she really wants you, you're going to get hurt. Take care of yourself, friend.
