I worked at an Orange Julius 20 years ago and i can tell ya what they used then, although it may have changed a bit. Ice(the same ice that the blenders were kept cold in by the way), orange juice, powdered milk, and sugar syrup dispensed from the soda machine. Worst experience of my life! We sold hot dogs too and the grill was defective and everyone always had burns on their arms from reaching over the grill to turn the hot dogs -which were kept (on that same ice again) for the next day if not sold. Great place to work back then!!!! Sorry, i really felt the need to share those great memories... he he he!

Orange Julius is made of orange juice and a special powder mix. The best mix I have found is called Frappe Freeze by Caffe D'Amore. They sell it on the Net (search Frappe Freeze). Buy the vanilla. I like to use fresh orange juice or strawberries mixed with ice and some water blended up real good. Make sure you have an ice crushing blender though.
