I know as an LPN he can get a direct commission to an officer. Otherwise he can probably get a bonus for joining, that's all if he is already a nurse. Otherwise, he can join as a medic, and then pursue college while he's in and get a degree in nursing, all at the expense of the military.
I'd call an Army and an Air Force Recruiter to find out greater detail.

It is all here at the AMEDD website.
Well actually not "all" but the facts and options.
Since the first Gulf War the role of the Army Nurse has changed
greatly. Be assured that the first few years are hard work, very long hours, the worst shifts, etc.
Then things open up as you "prove" yourself. An Army Nurse (female or male) has to learn and accomplish other than nursing duties. Trust me you will be a "soldier"
Many become, serve in such roles as comany commander of a medical company, you could be in charge of a medical unit,
as we used to say "it's not just a job it's an adventure!"
Get in shape! Many support and social options for the spouses
of the active duty Nurse Corps officer.
You will love Fort Sam Houston! Perhaps in ten years you can return! No, kidding, the Nurse Corps, Medical Corps can be something else! But be assured this is not your "Grandmothers Nurse Corps"
If you live within a few hours of any Army Hospital do call the
Nursing office and ask to talk with someone! There are likely ex Army nurses where you live, etc.
But your Soldier-Nurse could be deployed for such as a year in Iraq, Afgan but also duty may take you to Japan, Germany, Italy or
any Army Post or Fort (not a "base"). Some are great and some well suck" Fort Irwin unless you like "Death Valley", etc
Good Luck!
Yes, The Air Force has equal options! Same "exciting" duty stations, many better, etc. Flight duty in the Army is almost impossible but for rare options. As to the Navy? ?

If he's a BSN, it's worth a close look. But to join the officer corps, he does need a bachelor's degree, not an AD degree. Military nursing has its negatives (he could be stationed God knows where) and its positives (a 6 month internship in a specialty area is a big temptation to many). And the pay is competitive, with real opportunities for advancement.

Your husband wants to join? Are you kidding? And you are ok with this?
Bad, bad, bad idea. Is he already a RN or does he want his training through the military? If he is already a RN, then he would be set to be an officer. If not, they will put him in as an entry level (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Gaurd, Wal Mart) enlisted where he will be scraping about $400 every two weeks until he gets promoted and then he would be making $450 until the next promotion.
If he was to become an enlisted medic, this would barely translate to a CNA or a EMT in the civilian world. You would also have to live with him being gone for extended periods of time to fight Bush's occupation in the middle east.
Trust me, it is worth the time and money putting your husband through R.N. school versus joining the military. Look into college before you look into military.. it's not as quaint as the commercials like to make people think that it is.

The Air Force, definitely! In both as a nurse you will see deployment's, but in the AF they're 4 month's compared to the Army's 6-18 month tours. All in all, the two are becoming more and more similar when it come's to lifestyle wise but in the end, you're in a lot better shape "Crossing into the blue!" (God, I hate that line) ;)
